Exmoor trim HCPU canvas questions

Hi Guys

I don't know if anyone has one of these....

I'm looking for some information.

can anyone tell me whether this Exmoor trim canvas is a direct replacement for the original and the original hoops can be used?

can anyone also advise me as there is no specs on the website...

the side windows (blank canvas) what is the measurement of the opening when unzipped and rolled up?

the rear window again whats the gap when rear window is rolled up?

im looking to get a custom cage built (if not to expesnsive) but I want to to follow the profile of the original hoops to keep the factory look and also in the hope that I can have the exmoor trim canvas put over it..I will have the cage doors built to match the opening of that canvas....

I could get canvas built here too...but I do like exmoor stuff it appears very good quality...and I'm not sure i could get canvas here made to the same standard form similar cost....

I have seen some nice canvas out and about on some utes here but I have also seen some shocking stuff.

as far as I know it's a direct replacement and fits on the existing hoops. (are ET the OE supplier ??)

I've had two genuine tilts, and I'd never use an English made one ever again, the canvas just doesn't cope with our UV, they die in about two years. The canvas just falls to bits.

A locally made top using either local canvas or PVC is far more preferable. The Bradmill canvas yarn used here is apparently much more UV stable than overseas products.
My advice was to use canvas if camping in the back and PVC for commercial use as it's life will be longer.

I dont really want PVC Rick because it doesn't breath and I will be travelling the dogs h. The back.

As for the exmoor trim one its mohair not canvas because canvas shrinks to much

I don't know if that makes any difference.

I really don't know what the difference is in Exmoor's materials Lou.

I was going to buy one of their tilts a few years back but just put it off, and when asking a reputable motor trimmer here, his advice was that the English canvas just wouldn't cope with the UV (which is what happened with the two genuine ones I had)

Canvas for breathability, ie, camping or your use and PVC for more rugged use, and the Bradmill canvas is a mix of synthetic core with cotton twisted, woven, whatever they do around the outside.

I'll ask my local upholsterer what Mohair is, he's making new seats for me in canvas using Exmoor seat foams.
He's really impressed with the foams, reckons they're better than OE.

Ive done a bit of upholstery and sewing over the years . Im pretty sure mohair is whats described as a micro fibre ,ie very tightly woven fabric ,similar to a heavy denim..water proof..and mould resistant..fairly shiny fabric and very tough..A good product ..
And Im almost certain there aint no goat fur in it,,just a brand name..all synthetic.

canvas is made from cotton it will shrink..most canvas these days are prewashed ..but get it wet and it will shrink when it dries.not much though, we use to allow about 5%...not noticeable.

i forgot to write in my post up there that them not using canvas is because im after a hood with roll up sides

oh and about the stayfast (mohair)

Mohair is an upmarket woven product like canvas but a whole lot better. Hi priced sports cars like Mercedes use it for their soft top roofs.

But I shot them off an email last night as we aren't on their postage list, I was after postage cost for 2 front seat covers..........103 pounds, so close enough to $200 :eek::eek:

I buy loads of stuff from the U.S (heavier and bulkier that 2 seat covers) and have never seen postage like that.

Postage is very expensive from the UK, they do have distributors here.

I'm going to the UK in Dec and was considering bringing the hood back with me as it packs into a box and weighs 10kgs

Yes they did tell me they had distributors here but I was after the covers now not having to wait for a shipment, I'll go with something else.

They are distributed by Rovarcraft here but you have to wait for a container to arrive I ordered my Exmoor hood from craddocks on a thur it was on the door step the next Monday faster than the tracking could keep up and was half the asking price from rovarcraft:( only problem was/is the material dos,nt stand up to our weather and sun very well ;)

I had one made out of PVC, which the maker referred to as Ricky Ripstop. It has not torn as such, and the few holes or rubs in the sides are as a result of poor loading and cargo securing. I did stab test a sample with the trusty leatherman before purchase, and it is indeed pretty well rip proof...

However, it is now on its last legs after 8 years. The roof panel has lost its shininess due to UV, and has worn through on a few of the bends of the hoops.

If I get another, I would either reinforce in way of hoops, or incorporate some flat plate to the hoops, particularly in way of short radius bend, or a combo of both.

I would also minimise Velcro, any on the outside just did not last at all, eg, for vent flaps, and think hard about zippers.

The originals were coil type, and the heaviest used ones lasted about 5 years. I replaced the rears with chunky type, and they lasted 1 year before teeth started to fall out...

The only time I noticed condensation was after loading a big load of cut green wood after a storm. It smelt like gum leaves for weeks....

Opening side panels are without a doubt a must.

Lastly, I found that the PVC and Bungy loop fasteners are more durable and wear resistant than the paint around the coaming, and will wear it away. I just put a few layers of 100mph tape around the coaming, which worked ok.
