View Full Version : ARB Bar for MY14 out soon

I got an email today from ARB,it seems the MY14 ARB bars are available soon.
Good Morning Andrew,

Hope you had a good weekend. I have looked through my system this morning and can confirm

At this stage now I have a part number for the bull bar. This would indicate to me that the engineers

In Melbourne have seen a vehicle now and the development for the bull bar is well under way.

At this stage I don’t have any pricing on this item as while a bar is so early on in its development

It is hard to gauge if any more materials or other items are needed to make a complete unit.

I can however place a back order in the system for you which will secure one to be fitted to your

Land Rover. As soon as pricing in released I can then be in contact with you, you can then let me

Know if you are still happy to proceed.

Thanks Andy.
As an aside, I was in Opposite Lock in Bunbury last week and they said they could do an OL bar for a MY14 D4. This was only salesman speak and I haven't confirmed it with them. Another option?

Cheers,

Congrats Andy. Any idea on what it weighs?

No,nor what it costs.
There is in reality only the choice between ARB and OL.
Wont be fitting a winch at this time, just wanted the option there for later.

Andy, I got my bar installed after hitting a 'roo (sigh) so it was handled by Lombardi brothers as part of a panel beating job (actually a head light replacement job as no panels were affected, just the placky bumper).

Anyway Lombardi is Barbagallo's preferred panel beater, and Lombardi's preferred installer for roo bars is I think an outfit called west coast bullbars but ring Lombardi and ask for the name. I was happy with the install and Lombardi is a high end panel beater who would have high standards in any work he subbed out for a client.

I was all willing like you to do the running around and ordering the bar to keep costs down but this company said don't bother, we will get it quicker and cheaper than you can. ARB told me 4 weeks and they had the bar much quicker. I know your case is different as you have vbeen waitlisted for a bar that does not exist yet but I thought I'd pass this info on. There are some people on here who were not happy with their install, the gaps mainly and vibrations.

Andrew - as James said. ;)

Mine was installed by ARB in Osborne Park - sent there by Barbagallo. I'm happy with the bar, but the gaps are a bit excessive. If I was fitting it, I would have cut the wheel arch flares about half an inch longer than they did, and then probably also finished off with some decent rubber trim as I've seen in pics of others' vehicles on here.

Mine's the deluxe winch bar as well - and I haven't fitted a winch yet.

But for what I use it for - I'm not too bothered. It does the job (hit a decent size roo on the way home last week and not a mark). :D

Cheers Brian,I will ask them to be dilligent when cutting to keep gaps at a minimum.
Ordered a set of Fyrlyts from Todd today.
PS,visit Clark Rubber they sell all sorts of rubber trims, you may find something suitable.

Yep - been meaning to drop into a Clark Rubber store for ages to see if they had anything that would fit. The Clark Rubber store in Kal has shut down, so I'll have to keep my eye out for one down here.

Id take it back. ARB's standard install is to put the trim on all vehicles where they cut the bodywork.

They did put trim on it where they have cut the panels. That doesn't mean that there isn't still a large gap between the trim they installed and the bar itself. ;)

Sorry your post said if you'd done it you would've finished it off with rubber trim. I assumed that meant they didn't do it. :)

Someone I know who is negotiating a purchase of a D4 was told the ARB bar is not looking like being ready before January. The price will start with a 3.

When I was at ARB Canningvale friday Jason was saying he should have the bar in the next 3 to 4 weeks and it shouldnt be much dearer than the current bar.

Interesting, Andy. I guess time will tell. My friend is thinking of a LR bar rather than wait for an ARB bar because he lives in a roo-rich area and was concerend about the wait.

There's one on carsales, I couldn't post the pic from my stupid phone but it's def an MY14, the car is grey so have a look. It's on there for $83890 to make it easier to search. I still like the look of the ARB better😀

I thought the same. ;)

Saw one of these, almost identical to that photo - same colour D4 - on Stirling Highway a week or so ago. I noticed it particularly because it was on an MY14 D4 when I had been reading on here that you could not get any bar for your model yet.

Was going to say I'd seen an MY14 getting around with a bar on it - it's that one. It's up at Alto's. It's been around for a while so probably a demonstrator. I'm sure the bar would have been fitted by them.

Not only incredibly ugly, but looking at the way they are made and fitted I really can't see them doing much if you hit a roo. The uprights and hoop are quite flimsy. It fits too closely to the front of the car and the top of the main hoop is bolted to the radiator support panel just underneath the bonnet. I would think any impact would be transmitted directly to the front of the car.

Cheers,
Jon

What is the story on opposite lock bars for MY14? Website says 2009 onwards. Are we sure they don't fit?

Ps. They called ARB again twice over two days. Different people each time and they verified what the dealer told them. No ARB til Jan at earliest and they have "not put pen to paper" as far as design goes. I dunno what it's all about.

They were converting them to fit at owners expense, they are not complied for MY14.In Perth tommorow,if I get chance I will catch up with Jason and see when he expects mine.Tells me he has a part no for the MY14 onwards bar,and its the 3rd generation of the D4 bar.

My mate has ordered the opposite lock bar modified for 2014. He is rural living and has serious roo issues. He has become really nervous about the new car and really doesn't want to wait even until January.

I remember talking to him one morning west of Norseman about a bar for me and we agreed I should leave it but get one sometime. Twelve hours later outside Cocklebiddy I hit a roo. That may have influenced his thinking.

Thought it was just me getting conflicting stories from shop staff :)

ARB told me in June that the my14 bar was weeks away, they even booked me in for an install in July, clearly that was wishful on both our parts :D

I dont think the guys in the shop have any idea on availability, so shouldn't tell us until they have warehouse stock. Just my thought ..

I spoke to OL in Bunbury this morning. They have a MY14 TDV6 in their workshop for bar fitting this week. They have fitting instructions for fitting to a MY14, apparently there are no modifications required to mounting points, only some additional trim required below the headlights due to the different grill on the MY14 model. They will know definitively in a week when they have fitted it.

Your comment on the headlight washers is interesting, particularly if like me your Discovery has the Xenon headlights, then headlight washers are mandatory for ADR's.

I guess they fit a generic washer instead.

The new washers are recessed, if that's the only issue, a couple of D3/4 washers off fleabay would be ok.?

Currently for the 2014/15 D4's, OL fit 2013 MY washers to their bar. I think that's the only change.

The 2015 D4 also seems to have the parking sensors wired differently, but that shouldn't matter unless you're fitting a rear wheel carrier.

Cheers,

On the other side of the paddock OL quote $2310 retail for a D3/4 winch bar, colour coded and fitted. Deals can be negotiated. Might give you some sort of ballpark figure.
