As all who were planning on the rescheduled all British day at Kings in Sydney will be aware..., it's cancelled :(
However, on the bright side that leaves a free weekend to actually drive.
Is anyone interested in an impromptu jaunt out to Yerranderie?
Is an old silver mining ghost town in the Burragorang valley.
Accessible via Goulburn, Mittagong or Oberon.
(The most dirt via mittagong)
Google yerranderie.
They have cheap but excellent accommodation and camping.
Great walks, old mines, climb the peak , do a gourmet dinner and mingle with equally tastefully landrover owners.
I'm going with a couple of others, it's partner and kid friendly.
Well worth the excellent blue mountains fire trails and stock route drives, an expedition to remember.
Feel free to pm me or post any questions.
Rob.

Crikey, we spent a four day long weekend at Yerranderie back about 76.
Went via Oberon. It was a good trip.
We ( four of us ) stayed in a hut which had an open fire place.
I had pics but lost them long ago.

Thanks Olbod, it is a great spot.
There's a couple of old buildings you can stay in with wood fires and gas / solar modcons and very comfortable camping with hot showers, a camper's kitchen, fire wood supplied etc..
You probably met Val who owned it then. She gave it all to National Parks.
Not much has changed.. SCA Sydney Catchment Authority have locked a few areas / trails off for what valid reason no-one seems to know.
But a great drive, intersting old empty town and facinating history but as the crow flys, still quite close to sydney. There's an airstrip there which is only a 20min flight from Camden, not that I've seen it used.
I go in from Robertson via Wombeyan Caves road, Range fire trail, Oberon stock route.. all up about 175km each way. (about 120km being dirt)
If you come of the Taralga road at Mt Werong, it's just 65km dirt.
I've also heard of the Caves to Caves trip (Jenolan - Wombeyan) which does a Yerranderie stop over and that's all fire trails.
However.. if you're in Mackay, I guess you'll be excused this trip!
