Looking at the non branded radiators on eBay for a td5 disco. Has anyone used them? What experience has been had good or bad? They seem the same aluminum core and plastic tanks. One mob were selling motorkool brand for $258 delivered

Caveat emptor

A lot of chinese radiators hitting the market, considering the cost of a replacement TD5 engine you would want reliability. Find out the actual weight of them, a low weight count would mean thin Alloy. Just like cheap stainless steel items it's the thickness of the steel. Are the Tanks as good , just like cheap indicators they look the same until exposure to UV.

Don't buy cheap radiators for the TD5, would be my advice, for what it's worth. I replaced mine , $350, made in Denmark, of all places. Enquire here;

Roverlord sold me mine and I think it was Scottish made. Any way I am delighted with it and the price was right too.

Thanks all useful info their. The theory is Europe should produce a better quality product then the Asian staff being china and Taiwan. I will have to ask sellers for weights be interesting to see what they weigh. How long have you had yours installed bob?

I put it in 22/10/2013. Changed all my hoses, new thermostat. All good so far. The old radiator [ ORIGINAL, 1999] Had leaks at the top right & left corners. Just enough to make me paranoid about a head gasket. Bob

MotorKool (http://www.motorkool.com)
These where what I was looking at in particular South African company supplying auto parts group in Australia for 30 years apparently.

I'm keen to see one and compare to a more expensive radiator. The td5 radiator is not expensive but not that cheap either considering they are aluminium with plastic tanks after all. Supplying autobarn and the like

Auto barn, Repco and the like, see where there actual products are made, ie fuel pumps etc. usually on the box is made in CHINA and the like.
Also Don't assume that a seller say based in the UK etc is selling stuff manufactured in that country or any other country, a lot are just Part sourcers, they buy from China ,Asia, India etc stock it in UK and sell them. Like all the Mafs bring flogged on UK sites, Land Rover Disco 1 genuine no longer avail, the ones sold online are from China. Repco in Australia used to make Clutches, driveline components etc, later taken over by Unidrive, now Repco is much like any generic part supply store they import parts. Where the part manufacture originates from is the question.

I bought one off ebay for discovery 1, seemed very good price for $245 shipped, however after taking my old radiator out and putting the new one in, we found out that the oil pipe holes were to small. Once we contacted the seller they told me that it is the buyers responsibility to dill these holes to fit. If you do buy off ebay, just confirm the hole sizes, other then that, they have to pass a certain standard, it dosent made if they are branded or not, they are all probably made in the same place. so why not, you save money haha
