so the winch on the D1 I got is cactus. As in the rotor housing is shattered lol.
I'm looking at getting a replacement. What brands do you suggest I look at? was floating between tigerz11,runva and ironman. After something 9500lb up. Preferrably a quicker winch too. Runva seems to be priced pretty good. But I've not had any first had experience with them.

gday mate
i was also in the market for a winch up until this morning, similar criteria to yours. I didn't start a thread because i wanted to avoid the usual comments of "anything but a WARN is ****" and i didn't have the budget for a warn. So after reading a heap of threads all over the place about the lower end of the scale winches, this morning i ordered a Runva 11XP, seems like a pretty good unit with good reviews and couldn't find any real whinge threads about them and they are reasonably priced. I have no experience at all with winches this is my first one so take my opinion with a grain of salt. :D

Yeah the 9500 runva competition looks good really. looks to be a fast winch too. I'll have a bit more of a read but I dont mind. it's only for the bush basher. When time come sto do the defender up then I'll go for a warn.
the casing on the warn thats on the disco is shattered. LOL

I bought a Runva Hydraulic 15,000lbs. Winch for my scrap/recovery truck, much bigger and not electric like you are looking for.
But extremely well built and strongly designed, if I buy another winch for my Disco 1 it will be a Runva electric, Regards Frank.

Also looking for a winch and have read good things about the the Super Cheap Auto "Ridge Ryder" and also the Aldi winches. Seen some bad posts about the Tigerz.Waiting for the Xmas Sales though at close to 1/2 price.
Have you looked into getting your old winch rebuilt / serviced. Mate had his old WARN Tabor done by a local Perth winch company and it came back as good as new for $260.

A couple of mates have the ironman winch on there Prado and Hilux, we gave them death all day at Woodhill and they trucked along very well. Albeit, very slowly.
On paper the EWX runva seem better spec'd.
In saying all that, that was the only winching I have done. When it comes time to get myself one I think I will get the Runva EWX12000.

Runva are a solid winch...
Many here are changing to them over Warn as they change vehicles.
Warn are to winches what Kodak is to cameras... Old name, no longer the top!

With the Runva units - other than the fact the one is red and one is gray :) what is the go with the two colors ? Is one a newer model?
Have looked on the web but no obvious answers ?

dunno wether newer models or not but the 11xp is 11 000lb winch comes in Red and Black, black being limited edition but is exactly the same unit as the red one only difference being color (this is what i just bought) the ewx12000 is the grey one, 12 000lb unit and looks like a giant heat sink? on the end of the motor? not sure on that.
but if looking at Runva as an option i can't speak highly enough of Offroad Life 4x4 Off Road Life 4x4 (http://www.offroadlife4x4.com.au/) ordered my 11xp on thursday morning and received it friday around 2pm, and they were super quick at replying to emails and honest advice - didn't just sell me the more expensive option. (and they were $20 cheaper than everywhere else, + free postage)
