gear oil colour

As some gear oil is so vibrantly coloured. If the oil still looks clean, spotless and the same colour after the recommended service interval is it ok to leave it in?

No is the simple answer. The additives in the oil will deplete, and this can only be checked with laboratory testing. Oil is cheep, where as a gearbox is not.
