i mean it seems i have two holes instead of pipes - can i use this 'placeholder' to mount the wide band oxygen sensor? what are the pros and cons?

Are you putting closed loop lpg system in this vehicle? If so, the position for the oxygen sensor is in the single pipe to the rear of the junction between left and right banks' engine pipes. You will need to weld in a boss to fit the sensor.

it's not lpg. it's an aftermarket efi conversion from the old carb setup. i guess, in addition to o2 it would also nice to have egt sensors as well. but first goes first, i need o2. are there any reasons not to install an o2 sensor in place of that tube (i know i would need two o2 sensors - one for each bank, but it's later). i guess, i could do it without welding, if installing it instead of that tube.

Just get an universal sensor mount, like this one

or one like this

and fit it where all four (or all 8) cylinders flow gas past the sensor. NOT in the manifold where it gets one cylinder only. The above pics are straight from ebay.
