Retail price over $7k:o Either there's people buying land rovers with waaaaaaaay to much money, or theres a good reason it's discounted cause no ones buying it.

You'd only want to install one of these on a dark coloured vehicle.

The gold plating wouldn't stand out anywhere near as well on a white one ......... ;)

I would hope for that price it also comes with the fitting kit. Here's what they look like:

They come with the Warn 9.5XP winch, which is pretty exxy.

And it's a pity that Warn void warranty once the winch is submerged in water too.

That looks illegal ; and I would want some sort of car bolted to it for that price

That is the OEM provided by Landrover as an option so is perfectly legal, albiet ugly.

Even at $2500 it's expensive, especially considering it just a 9500lb Warn winch, Warn are very over priced and over rated in my opinion.

I assume it comes with the wiring harness and terminated cables for easy installation on a D3/4

It protrudes forwards of the bumper so regardless of whether its LR supplied or not I would expect it not to be legal in Australia.

Hi Andrew,
9500 lb is the standard size. There was a thread recently where someone contended that the bullbars are only designed to take 9500 lb winches, and a 12000 lb winch would put the bar at risk of damage. I have a 12000 lb Ironman and hope to never find out!

Well only an assumption, but as it was an option in the Australian LR accessory list for our D3/RRS and was on the Aust LR website as an option one would assume it was legal - if not, again one would assume LR would have been forced to recall it for removal from fitted vehicles.

I suspect that as it is an OEM fitment it then is considered as part of the bumper and is not protruding.

I fitted the OEM Winch kit on my D4HSE - but purchased it direct from Duckworth Landrover in the UK (purchased over the net, "Duckworth Parts") as it was half what the dealer in Adelaide wanted for the kit . With $A at $1.09 to the $US at the time and given I purchased all other G4 challenge parts I got a very good deal. It arrived within 10 days.

I went down this path to keep weight down having owned a kitted out D3 (ARB bar with winch) which was damn heavy, fully loaded.

Then RMP (moderator) on this site advsied he had a G4 challenge vehicle and he took the winch kit and front bash plate (separate purchase) off his car, weighed the parts, and found it was near as damn it same weight as an ARB bar (which incorporates a bash plate)

And I cried. :(

A little bit....:no2:

cheers!

Noting the Aussie Landrover D3 site had the winch mount etc as an option for the D3 but it is not listed here for the D4.

Not exactly sure what you mean about the winch mount Garry, but the Australian LR site has the the winch and underbody protection available as a dealer fit option for the current Discovery, or have I misunderstood what you meant?

Ok - you must be able to find yourself around the current site - I had a look for the winch and mount but could not find it anywhere so thought it was not available.

I find that site one of the worst for navigating around - maybe designed that way to force people into the dealerships to get questions answered.

By the way - how do you find the accessories section.

Cheers

Obviously I have this winch cradle setup on my car and having gone through the import / engineering inspection process, I can tell you it's perfectly legal, despite sticking out beyond the front bumper. The engineer asked a lot of questions about it, I had to show him it was OEM and essentially 'factory fitted', after which he then called a local LR dealer for confirmation as he still didn't believe me. Once advised it was a genuine part, it was signed off.

It is stupidly expensive here. I know Jamie Gilmore also bought his RRS winch setup from Duckworths, way cheaper than buying it here.

Closer inspection of the legislation reveals that only brackets such as those used for lights, aerials and fishing rods forward of the bumper or bull bar are illegal, as well as any sharp edges.

So the ones they sell in all the auto parts stores that are fixed to the number plate and used by emergency services for lights (& aerials) are illegal?

I haven't seen them so don't know what they look like, but the regulations are pretty much black and white.

Yeah I agree, its not the most user friendly of sites, but to answer your question, from the LR homepage, select Discovery, then go:
Build your own
Select any model...build
Select engine
Once the car appears, select accessories, then from the selection up top choose towing...

Easy isn't it......not, well thats how I did it when we ordered our car, so I hope it works for you.

I assume you could order the OEM mounting kit by itself. I like the covert in bar mount and being for a warn, you should be able to fit your own more affordable winch.

I wonder how much for the mount only.

I have a 4 fishing rod holder that I had fitted to my D2.It is removable when not in use,the clamp remains fitted to the bull bar,the 4 rod section lifts out,a Wilson product.
I was stopped in Albany and asked to remove the rod holder as it wasnt carrying fishing rods, easily done, just pull out the snap ring pin.
I was told by the very friendly officer, they are illegal if not carrying fishing rods,BUT once carrying fishing rods they are OK.

No not at all.
There are provisions for over lenght loads on all vehicles front or back.
Simply put,the rod holder is illegal when its not carrying the over length load,ie the fishing rods!!!
