Hi,
New to the forum and need some advice on fitting an 01 P38 4.6 engine and trans into a Defender 130 crew. If I opt for an MS for the fuel/spark side of things will that same ecu handle/talk to, the transmission? If not, what do I need or will the factory transmission ecu suffice? I have looked and couldn't find the answer either here or on overseas sites. What other issues do you foresee? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Ashcroft do a stand alone gearbox computer called the compushift, I got mine to work with a diesel engine in a P38 and it only needed to carry over the throttle position sensor, but I still have all the other computers intact, whether they effect the gear change I don't know, but it can be done, might be easier to use the gearbox from a classic though.
Good luck and keep us posted on your progress

Are the diffs on a Defender the same side as a P38, I think not. You are going to have fun getting a P38 gearbox and transfer box fitted unless you plan to use the P38 axles. Maybe I am Wrong?

The P38 and most defenders share the same diffs, not sure about which way they rotate however

Maybe I am Wrong? You're correct. Maybe you can just replace the transfer case though if you want to persist with the P38 gearbox.
