I am going to the Expo at Castle Hill this Sunday and wondered if any other people from this forum are going.
It would be good to put some faces to names and have a closer look at some other P38's.
Last year there were about 20 of them there.
If you are going, PM me and I am happy to give you my phone number

PS: I have a GEMS nanocom which i will plug into any other GEMS P38 at the Expo

Would have been good to meet a few of you. I went 2 years ago (I think????) but can't make it this year unfortunately.

I'm giving the diesel a run up there. It'll be it's longest drive in my hands so I'll see if I can get the fuel consumption reading down into the single digits :).

Any particular time or spot that anyone is meeting...or play it by ear?

Can you maybe do a trip report on the diesel after the big drive mate?
I am always curious to understand more about them.

Hey everyone,
It was great meeting a few of you today (p38arover, TheTree). Unfortunately I either missed Scouse, or he didn't introduce himself (or I wasn't paying attention) :P
It was great seeing p38arover's p38, and ask loads of questions in preparation for the arrival of the p38 I'm buying for the other half.

Hi all, just want to say I enjoyed walking around today seeing all vehicles, unfortunately could only stay for a couple of hours. It was a pleasure to meet scouse and his diesel and a quick chat with the tree......!

--Striker.Sorry Striker, I walked past the van a couple of times but didn't see you in there. Unfortunately, there wasn't much in the way of entertainment for the kids this year so much of my time was spent looking after them.
It was good to meet a few members on here too. Oh, and Ron as well ;).
The DSE went well, even though it was only a 200km round trip. 9.4litres/100km according to the trip computer & around 525km for 1/2 tank so far.

I was slightly embarrassed to be Awarded "Best in Class P38" at the expo.
Personally I think both Ron and Scouse have better vehicles
Now if I can just get the motor to rev past about 2,500 :(

Ha ha, I think someone had better check up on Ron today. We went up with Ron to the presentation to watch him collect his trophy only for Ron to discover that he no longer has the Best P38 by Far :(.
I only hope Elisabeth was able to console him last night ;).
I didn't count the P38s there but the numbers appeared well down compared to past years. I think there was only around 6 there.

Having only had the car a couple of weeks I haven't even got around to washing it yet !
Maybe they liked the new stainless cats it has and the superpro bushes in the front end with shiny new nyloc nuts :p
The rest of the front underneath is pretty oily a slow rocker cover leak!
Last year there seemed to be 10 or 15 P38's, maybe age is really starting to catch up with them :(

Here's Steve Farmer (now known as TheTree - if you saw him, you'd know why) attempting the articulation ramp. (That's Tusker from this forum behind the ramp.)
I suspect mine was excluded from judging as it's a modded vehicle (at least that's my excuse :D ). Mine is the white one in the circle of examples of each vehicle model.
Elisabeth didn't console me :( - I drank a bottle of shiraz instead. :)

Given that SWMBO is currently in Sydney for an extended time to care for her frail Mum, I had high hopes of attending ... glad you all had a good day out! :)....well I hope there's next year! There's always a "next year".... isn't there?

Got to ask, TheTree, what kind of suspension do you have in your P38? Is that still on bags?
--Striker.
TheTree

It has standard bags fitted.
The assistant actually said to me "you could have gone further but the wheel was touching the guard" ... I realised later that the suspension was not on high setting

This is the spot in the display circle before I alerted Ron to the lack of a P38
I also had an amusing chat with the young people on the LR stand who had no idea what a P38 was until I pointed out Rons fine example

The people around me who were watching had picked up on that. I asked the question whether articulation is better in normal or extended mode.

That'd be me...
The problem is the front spoiler scraping on the ramp. Happens with most of the newer cars. As for that Evoque...
You foglight was folding back. It just had the smell of damage had you continued.

Thanks mate I can see a little scrape on the lip.
I should have removed the spoiler lip and raised the suspension, it would have gone a bit further then :wasntme:
Still it was fun :p

I think it's better in extended mode because there is more body clearance.
We could adapt the old computer support Acroymn PEBKAC "Problem Exists Between Chair And Keyboard" to PEBDAC "Problem Exists Between Driver And Controls" :D

Owner's Manual Pge. 193 "Bib Spoiler" .....
"...The vehicle has a bib spoiler extension fitted
to the front bumper to improve air flow during
normal driving conditions. This MUST be
removed when considering serious off-road
driving...":bangin: :angel::wasntme:

If the front lip was touching then I'm sure it would have benefit in high mode. But I found high mode tended to lift wheels easier in the bush. But maybe on a travel ramp where the rear passenger is on the bump stop and the drivers side in the air due to hitting the end of the shock then I can't see it being much different.
I reckon that rear drivers side had plenty to go though Steve until it lifted. Do your standard size tyres rub the guards? Maybe your liners aren't up tight or bump stops squashed as mine never rubbed until the 32's.

Just seeing these pics of your tidy P38's makes me think I really should tidy mine back up though. Wish I could have come along.
