Hi all, I'm planning on crossing the Simpson next year and doing some research at the moment. After a lot of searching couldn't find any threads where someone has taken the 4L v6 petrol. I'm interested to find out what kind of fuel consumption you got if anyone has done it
I can carry up to 80L in jerries if need be, taking total to 160L of fuel, which should be fine as long as it can average under 30L/100km. Surely it won't use more than that?!!!

On Fraser I'd get 250-270k to a tank in the D3 V6. I assume the Simpson would be worse as there's not much low tide beach to drive on :D
I looked long and hard at a Simpson crossing in the D3 but one of the factors that put me off was having all that premium fuel sloshing around on the roof. A bonfire rollover was not something I wanted to participate in, even if it was a very remote chance.

If its any help, a member of LROCV in a Petrol D1 on a recent Simpson Madigan line trip averaged 39l/100km and 44l/100km in the heaviest dunes.

We just crossed the Simpson in July. Spent a month cruising around the red centre and outback QLD and had a ball with no major issues apart from a cracked windscreen in the West MacDonnell Ranges.
Our D3 is a 4.0l V6 and it used 135 litres across the Simpson from Mt Dare to Birdsville via the French line which for us was 515km. So averaged around 26L/100km.
Enjoy the trip!

Yeh... but being fair..that was the Madigan line , wrong way around (East to west) and quite a lot of cross country.
Would not have been that bad on an easier option like the French line, west to east.

And bsm that's (from my d1 experience) only slightly above normal town economy for a d1
v8 (hahahaha).

My good old V8 D1 has a 125 litre long ranger tank fitted, lucky to get over 500 kilometres from it on the road. ...
The two vehicles are very different though and can't really be compared.
