Apologies in advance as this is probably a simple question! I have tried google and looked at the wiring diagram....For the life of me I cannot figure out exactly what the 2 sensors in the thermostat housing actually do!!!
My Temp gauge wasnt working up until yesterday, when the mechanic wired up the sensor for me free of charge :) Nice guy!!

So this is in an 85 County?

My guess is that one is to turn on the electric fans if the engine temp goes over 102C, like in Range Rovers if you have aircon.
The second ? You got me.
Has this car got emission stuff on it like air injection? if so it may be to turn on a ported valve after warmup to enable air injection or reroute the air cleaner pickup from the manifolds to the main inlet.

Thanks mate!!....Will have a look :)
Its hard to see in front of the Rad, but i think there is small electric fan in there...probably for air con (???)
Dont even get me started on the air con!!....I have looked at that this morning....I do not understand it :( I have this ugly looking box on the LH side that says air con and when I turn the fan on in the car, the box makes a low air con like noise!...this, i think, is good....First issue, is the little light on the panel for air con doesnt light up....second issue, the air con clutch itself doesnt have a single wire going to it!!....I managed to locate 2 black wires in the engine bay...one looks like its earthed to the engine, the other is a free spirit and is coming from the main harness.....Bugger!...Job for the pro's I think!!

The upper sensor is for the cut out of the aircon when the cooling fluid reaches undesired high temperatures.
The lower one is for actuating the aircon fan, it comes into action to help in cooling the radiator when the aircon is switched off, it is bypassed when the aircon is switch on.

thanks mate!!...Now that makes sense :)
I will now figure out what wires actually go to the compressor itself :)

According to the workshop manual, the wire that feeds the compressor is colored white and orange along with an earth fed wire, they both end in an electric plug.
