Nice machines, I would like to have a The Vincent Black Shadow but they can cost over $ 60000 for one in original condition :(

lots of money I should imagine.

Nice.

I had a CD250 Honda once which was modelled after the looks of that bike. Very nice clean look.

Genuine Shadows are very few and far between and an A+ (fresh authentic restoration) example will fetch more than $60,000. Most Vinnies offered as Black Shadows are Rapides tarted up into the more valuable version.

If offered in Oz at a fair dinkum auction to genuine historic motor cycle enthusuasts, I doubt if the Nortons would fetch $20,000. A good restored one fetches $7,000-$8,000.

Motor-cycle restoration has reached the stupid point of being able to assemble a desirable make/model of bike entirely from reproduction parts. Norton Manx are a classic example. I am not sure if Vincent v-twins have reached this point, but entire new engines are being made.

Yes but NEW old stock and restored are a different thing.

I reckon they;d sell for more than that !

Are they gonna sell them individually or as a jab lot ?

If individually, but at the same auction then.... $27,500 (+/- 500) each - average sale price

If individually, and at seoarate auctions (eg different countries) then.... $31,500 (+/- 500) each - average sale price

If a job lot... $240,000 ish

I have a friend who once wanted a earlier model Jag. So he purchased all the parts to build one. Cost him a lot but he got the Jag he wanted built from all new parts.

Perhaps that's possible with Bikes.

See Post No.4 above.

you can tell the replicas from the originals easily if you are familiar with old British bikes. The replicas have the advantage of modern foundry technology and modern machine tools. They are better finished.

I think this is the auction
Motorshop Podevyn Wegens Nalatenschap - Online Auction - Troostwijk (http://www.troostwijkauctions.com/uk/motorshop-podevyn/01-13018/)

edit:
yep this is it:
http://www.troostwijkauctions.com/uk/air-cooled-motorbikes/02-13018-6168/

Mind you it happened a few months back and I can't see where we can get sale prices from... if at all.

edit again:
I sent them an email to ask. Will see if they answer.. stay tuned.

A good friend of mine bought one last year at a Bonhams auction in the UK. He paid GBP48,500 for it, plus about AUD$5,000 to ship it to Australia. So, all in, around AUD$100K. It is an exceptionally nice example. I have not asked if I can have a ride, as I couldn't afford to fix it if I dropped it :(

This is the bike: 1951 Vincent Black Shadow to Be Auctioned - autoevolution (http://www.autoevolution.com/news/1951-vincent-black-shadow-to-be-auctioned-13357.html)

Re: Vincents

When I left the UK 12 years ago you could buy almost every part of the Vincent new from the club (they have their own spares manufacturing division). At the time the crankcase halves and the UFM (upper frame member) were about the only things you couldn't get. I would think by now everything is available.

You could always buy one produced in Hallam, VIC Irving Vincent, Motorcycles, Australian Motorbikes, Daytona Bikes, Vintage Bikes, Motorbike Racing - Irving Vincent Motorcycles (http://www.irvingvincent.com/)
No prices, it's probably a case of "if you need to ask then you can't afford one". Saw these at Winton a few weekends ago.

I have a Series C Rapide in bits which I must start assembling one day. Problem is the longer I leave it the more expensive the parts are.....I found out the other day that an 'as new' 150mph Shadow speedo is around $2K, fortunately mine only has the STD Smiths speedo.

Ivan Turic in Perth has a few and bought after-market replica crankcases and sent them back for credit. He reckoned they were sub-standard, or maybe sub-Ivan-standard. He is a retired patternmaker and made his owns patterns, had them cast, and machined them himself. I provided the machine tool supplies.

Alright so.. getting back on the original topic...

I wonder what these will go for:

11 New 1975 Norton Commandos Found in Belgium! (http://www.motorcycleclassics.com/black-side-down-new-nortons-found-in-belgium.aspx)

I have joined. logged on etc etc and have now found out what the closing bid on each of these lots was.

The 11 boxed Norton Commando 850's were sold separately, but at the same auction. (ie one box of motorbike - 1 lot).

Here's what people thought they'd go for:

If offered in Oz at a fair dinkum auction to genuine historic motor cycle enthusuasts, I doubt if the Nortons would fetch $20,000. A good restored one fetches $7,000-$8,000.

If individually, but at the same auction then.... $27,500 (+/- 500) each - average sale price

This is the actual closing price on each lot:

Lot 4: € 14,250.00
Lot 5: € 14,250.00
Lot 6: € 14,250.00
Lot 7: € 14,505.00
Lot 8: € 17,100.00
Lot 9: € 15,500.00
Lot 10: € 15,000.00
Lot 11: € 14,500.00
Lot 12: € 14,500.00
Lot 13: € 14,250.00
Lot 14: € 14,250.00

Average price = € 14,760.00

@ today's exchange rate (1 EUR = 1.4241 AUD): AUD$ 21,020.00 ea

So the closest was... Brian. Though he did say Australia, and he did say they'd struggle. So maybe the winner is..pop058. All I know is it wasn't me !

Brian,

The VOC crankcases are 2,750 pounds for a pair. That's about 3 times what I paid for the Rapide ! Mind you that was nearly 30years ago........

VOC Spares - the online Vincent parts shop (http://www.vincentspares.co.uk/acatalog/crankcase.html)

Colin

Is that the same guy who started making replica Vincent engines in Caboolture a few years ago? If so, the complete engine was $30,000 then.
