I am hoping you blokes have got some pictures and memories of the race cars you love the most. The pictures i have found are not the best Quality but they are three cars i think look bloody good.

The Greens tuf Falcon is a car i remember as the first race car poster i ever put on my wall as a kid. The first time i went to the DJR factory, i clearly remember spending at least 90% of the day just looking at the mighty green machine. That Falcon and Dick himself is the whole reason i started following Ford.

Which is strange, because as a kid our family mainly had Holden's and Valiant's with a few other odd-ball cars along the way like a Hillman Hunter(****box) and a Citreon(bigger ****box) before we left New Zealand we had a Chev Impala with the 327,that car has a lot of great memories for me.:D

The Hillman Hunter won the first London to sydney marathon then backed it up with a win in Australia's first 250k off-road race beating the factory Ford team
**** box maybe but you have to give them credit Citroen had the L - S in the bag but had a headon with a couple of drunk cops on a closed section of road I think so the two heaps off crap didn't do to bad:o

G'day mate,was that book called 'Don't tell me i can't do that' ?

No,its called,Dick Johnson, the autobiography of a true blue aussie sporting legend.By Dick Johnson and James Phelps.

Starts at the beginning when he was a kid, goes up to when Courtney departed DJR.So it is pretty recent.

Most of my race car photos have already been posted on here. Use the search function as the system won't allow a second posting.

Here is one I took on last Sunday. It is a pre WW2 sprint car now rigged with four wheel brakes and a clutch and gearbox to run on road circuits. It had a 318 Offenhauser (rare) but now has a 270. Current owner bought it and found it had a cracked crankshaft. A new crank was made locally and Gordon Clough did the rebuild. Awesome noise.

Curent owner says downshifting to second for the corners at Qld. Raceway made no great difference to lap times. The Offy has so much grunt at lower revs that it just powers out of the corners without hesitation.

Real race cars have front engines and open wheels.

Hey Welby, just to show that we both live the Torana dream. My Torry has nothing like the race pedigree of yours (or any of the other monsters in this thread), but it tries with at least a XU1 spec engine and an A9X diff. :):):)

From memory the last rolling road / mapping I had done got it to 370ish bhp at 16/17psi boost (it was a long time ago however so I may be slightly out)

We were fairly conservative as it was raced and I started with a brand new crate engine! after blowing the side out of a piston in the previous engine! over 400 would have been possible if we had wanted to with more boost

It only weighed 1150kgs so was pretty quick! Not as quick as the Caterham however which would hit 100kmh in 1st gear in 2.7 seconds

There was an Audi quattro at a rally here a few months back. I think it only finished mid pack in it's class. But I'm not sure how well developed it was. Very cool to see a classic with genuine running gear still out being used.

Hardly a tough looking race car but.......

1966 Gallaher 500

Back in the days when the most expensive cars started at the front of the grid and the cheapest cars (i.e. Mini) started at the back of the grid.
After the first three laps, the first Mini made it into the top ten.
At race end they filled the first nine places.

They introduced a new term into the motor racing vocabulary. Chuckability. You didn't drive them into corners, you threw them.

I have one. A '68 deluxe. A mate has a Cooper. The Cooper may be for sale soon.
Mmmmm...... I wish.
Anyone want to buy a Commodore?

A friend of mine bought a rover V8 engine at a auction , it was one of the spare motors for these vehicles still in the crate & never used , he was going to put in his wife's SD1 . I talked him out of it , convinced him he would never keep the fuel up to it & would need to run with air flow meter fully open . His wife was 65 years old would have been a quick old lady . He sold it on eventually.

My Favourite race car, is probably the car that caused the most friction across the Australia racing community. The almighty Nissan GTR. The only way the Australian manufactures could beat it was to ban it. Imagine the competition today if they were not banned....

Race cars don't really get any 'tougher' than the NASCAR Winged Warriors when (for their time) you consider what they achieved when they were introduced and the speeds that they reached... Group B rally or the Suzuki Escudo Pikes Peak car are the only things that come close!

Love the Barracuda ! That thing is Huge.

Personally i reckon any car on a racetrack is fun and if it happens to be quick and yours then even better.

This is mine. Small pot screamer and has done a 1.43 around the old track at Eastern Creek with a better steerer than me. Still fine to potter around town in or go away for the weekend.

I bought my Defender partly as a Tow car for it. Polar opposites and love them both.

It wasn't until i got older that i understood the engineering in the Citreon.

I bought a new Hillman Hunter Royal 660 (rebadged Hunter GT for cheaper insurance) in 1971. My son got it off me. It left the family in 2008 after he died. The car has been restored and now lives in Canberra albeit in Hillman Hustler colours.

I wouldn't call it the name you used. It was a good car in it's day. Pic of mine below was taken in about 1995 or so. The car was, when I bought it, a metallic green called, if I recall correctly, Deep Chartreuse.

I can't stand the place, It's a **** track,**** facilities,Half the speakers at the back of the track didn't work so you had no idea what the hell was going on. Pit facilities were crap,Driving in from Logan you had two tolls to pay just to get there, rubbish food(rip-off prices). Yet you can go to Laidley street sprints and its a MUCH better run event. Morgan park or Lakeside are the places to race good tracks, good people, well organised, fair prices,Just better places to be.

Not long before i left Brisbane the Mt Coot tha hill climb/sprint had just restarted,Wow what an event! Gentleman Jim was there in his Targa Tasmania Porsche and was just so happy to be around the fans, what a top bloke.

I see in Sunday's paper Wagners are building a circuit in Toowoomba & look like having the V8's racing there in 2016 which will give Qld 4 races a year, but then Qld Raceway only has 2 years remaining on there contract & unless they do some safety & other improvements they may loose the V8's. They said the track is designed by Mark Skaife & will have elevation & be a rival to Bathurst . It will be built beside the new Toowoomba airport so should not have a noise restriction problem.

I read somewhere recently that Tetley who owns Qld Raceway makes more money from track days and ride days than from v8sc, especially considering the money they expect him to cough up for upgrades etc.

The FIA is about to do a round of inspections on QLD Raceway and a report on economic stimulus of the V8 race. So if faults are found, who knows what it will cost to fix?
