I don't disagree with the basic idea but how do you tell where the 50kph zone where there are campers and where does it end - 100m before had, 200m before hand - and what happens if you don't actually know there are campers as some may not be visible from a vehicle driving on the beach.

As I said I do not disagree but in some circumstances how do you know if you are in a 50kph zone.

You know because there are real big signs that say 50. From memory there's also large signs saying its the camping zone and to be careful.

I can understand permanent 50 signs near permanent camp areas but what about just along the beach where people are camping - the article does not differentiate between designated camp areas and areas where you can free camp along the beach.

If you're not sure where the 50 limit starts or ends then just stick to a 50 limit all the way through. There is no compulsion to do 80 - it's a limit not a target.

There is no free camping on teewah beach.....you can only camp in the designated zone for which you require a permit.

There are signs however on my last trip up the beach I was in a mind of my own sailing along at 70 in front of the camping area.....Ranga chipped me for it. Would have copped the fine sweet......I try to obey the limit as lots of cars do 80 along the front of the camping area and it's way safer for the kids when everybody is doing 50

I have no issues with speed limits and enforcing them on beaches.It plain stupid and dangerous what people do.

I'd agree, I don't have a problem with the cops monitoring speed on beaches...especially around campsites and kids.

Us mexican's dont get to play on the beach often... but I've done my fair share of beach driving at Robe, Stockton and various Qld beaches including Teewah.

My kids still like to remind me about a trip heading south down the east beach on Fraser quite a few years ago ... I was doing around 80 Km/hr when I was overtaken on the left, with his left wheels firmly in the water......by a 6WD Garbage Truck :eek::eek::eek:

It would be great if we could do 40ks on Victorian beaches , let alone 60 !!..

I think they'd get more to slow down if there was an actual visible police presence on the beach. So it's really going to be no different from being on the highway everyone slows for the camera and then resumes their speed straight after. It won't take long for the speed camera vehicle to get identified - it'll be the one with no-one nearby parked in the middle of the hard sand itself causing an obstruction/hazard.

I'm not for a minute suggesting that speeding is ok. Just their process doesn't work on the highways or in the suburbs, so what makes them think it'll work on the beach.
