In issue 76 of 4WD Monthly...
Quote"........Toyota has already issued an official warning that snatch strap recovery is not a condoned practice on the company's 4WDs. Now there's a novel concept: the most popular 4WDs in the country aren't compatable with the most popular single item of recovery equipment sold on the market....." unquote
The article also goes on to say later: quote".....Very few vehicles have any sort of load rating on the recovery point. Range Rover is one of the few that does, but even Landrover officially discourages the use of snatch straps in its publications...."unquote
The hand book I have with my 03 Discovery to my knowledge does not refer to snatch strap recovery at all.
I guess that Toyota may be concerned that if their vehicles are snatched then that may be further cause for the IFS to collapse :?: :?: :?:

Surely all that burning platic is going to be worse for the enviroment NODDY, perhaps we'd be better of leving it in one peice. Then we could use it like an artifical home for the wildlife, That's if they would use it style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif

I dont think they could handle a trifecta of toyo losses. First Ovelander 4wdoty goes to land rover disco 3, then Discovery Channel's Ultimate adventure vehicle is awarded to the rover. It would kill them. Matt

From what i read on overlander toyotas don't get bogged, so they wouldn't really need snatching.
And I've never seen a soccer mum in the supermarket carpark using a snatch strap anyway style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif 8)

the correct method of recovery on a toyota is;-
1. connect snatch strap to landy
2. run strap out to toyota, leaving at least a 4-5 metre loop on the ground
3. place shock damper ( mail bag or similar) over strap
4. connect drag chain to strap.
5. connect free end of drag chain securely to front axle of toyota
6. really give your landy a gut full providing similar pulling force to that which would be applied to pull a toyota driver off your sister.
7. one front axle is removed from bog hole, concentrate efforts on gearbox and tranfer case.
8. repeat this process until all components of toyota are removed from boghole.
9 crack the top off a coldie, sit down and RECOVER while the happles toyo driver reassembles his truck.
technically, a snatch strap has not been used on the toyota, it has been used on the landy while a drag chain has been used on the toyo.
hope this helps

its usually the front and rear diffs that are bogged.
i guess thats all you gotta snatch isnt it?
the rest is fine....

You dont need to worrie about the diff and cv joints etc on the front of 100 series, they fall of on their own, you might need to drag it out of the way though. Matt
