Got some wolf rims i plan to put on my county -they need a clean-up and respray. Couldn't be bothered sanding them all back by hand so took them to the local sandblaster -anyway he also does powdercoating and saw some rims he'd just done and looked really good and not expensive. Was planning to paint them with rattle cans but powdercoating could be a better option. Anyone had their rims powdercoated?

I don't like the way powder coat peels as soon as it's chipped. Painting would be my choice but I hate rust, so I galvanised mine; that solves the problem permanently.

Seems to me the best option for Defenders is to get Wolf rims hot dip galvanised. I had some done recently at Furphys, Shepparton, Vic and have more to go. Worked out at a bit over $50 /rim. Charges are based on weight of galvanised items . I put in a fair bit of time with paint stripper, stainless steel pot scrubber and "elbow grease" cleaning them up first. Then there are normally little runs. rough spots etc after galvanising that are best filed, sanded or whatever to tidy up before using rim.

A significant advantage of galvanising is better long term protection against rust - especially under tyres. Re the visible finish, the silvery shine when new soon tarnishes. However, then under normal conditions deteriorates much slower than paint or powder coat.
