When Ford service Rangie's

Some of you my remember the little incident with the H2O out at Ace's BBQ in December last year, I needed to be towed of the mountainside(thanks Noddy & Kimba) and had to get NRMAto tow it the rest of the way into D& J Ford at Lithgow who is both the NRMA depot and the authorised Ford dealer and service centre in Lithgow. After porlonging it as much as they could they replaced a Ignition coil GT40RT and blew the water out of the ECU. (Ok old news right?)

Some of you may also remember a thread were I mentioned having to get towed home after blowing another Ignition Coil, (The Ford one appeared to be second hand)Which I might add I called them and complained about the problem and was told I would receive a refund on the fualty part(STILL WAITING!!!). I replaced the coil with a new GT40RT fired first go.

Today,

I was heading to ARB at Gosford to collect some of the new toys when it happened again, the coil died AGAIN!!!!!, whilst on the westward approach to the bridge on Dane drive(near Central Coast Stadium) being almost peak hour I sat in the car knowing what the problem was unable to fix it and waiting to tag my Rangie.

My first thought was to call then NRMA who apparently showed no record of my membership and pleasantly told me to pay for my membership again at $239.00 and sort out the records problem at a later time(I wont repeat the language I used as it will be edited out :evil: ).

I called for a tow truck figuring that the longer I stand where I was the greater my chances of becoming a hood ornament. Price$66.00

While waiting for the Tow Truck I called Dave Marshall and the Guys at The Edge 4wd(Gosford ARB) and told Dave of my problem, Without hesitation he ask how he could help. I asked him if he could spare a staff member to get to Repco before it closed to collect a new Ingnition Coil, He put me on to his mechanic and said tell him what you need. I told him what the part was as per fitted by the Folks at D & J Ford at Lithgow.

The tow truck dropped me of at The Edge 4wd approx. 15mins later. Dave had the part waiting for me as per arranged. First thing I notice was (wrong part) the new one was different to the one fitted. My concerns were laid to rest as Dave and his mechanic explained to me that they had asked for the part as per my instructions(going from what Ford had fitted)
only to be told that it was the incorrect coil for the Rangie, the correct coil being a GT40R.

So as soon as they open in the morning guess whois getting a nasty phone call. :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil:

What damage to the rest of the electrics has the wrong coil done, not to mention cost in both time and money replacing the wrong coils and towing!!

If this is any indication of future services done at FORD DEALERS I can assure you they wont be touching my Rangie again :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil:

Dave Fitted the Coil for me at NO CHARGE!!

I Kindly made a donation to the Friday Arvo drinking fund and told Dave to get the guys a carton on me.

there shouldnt be any damage. they gave you a coil meant to run with a resistor to drop the voltage down to around 7 volts.
your car is wired up to run the coil at 12 volts (ie no resistor)

all that was happening was the coil was overheating from the extra voltage till it burnt out.

the new one you got from repco was a 12 volt one.

the damage is if there was an emergency or something and you were stuck in the middle of no where.... need i say more?

The second phone call I would be amking tomorrow after dealing with the dealer, would be to the NRMA. Make sure they have your membership sorted.

It is their fault, you could nearly send them a bill for all your costs so far, ie the 2 new coils, the tow truck etc. And get onto the NRMA, thats a load of ****, they always pull that crap, i bet its because enough people have just paid again. If you harrass them enough and talk to the right people, i bet your payment turns up. Matt

INCOMPETENCE is even less tolerable when the individuals you are dealing with are supposed to know what they are doing, and when you entrust your pride and joy with them. It was doomed from the start when the NRMA guy made a comment on how bad rangies were when he loaded it onto the flat bed. Total dick head, i am sure Jason wouldnt hesitate to agree. Matt

I spent the day in Sydney more goodies :twisted: didnt get to inform D & J Ford of my disliking (trying to be nice style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif ) of their handling of the repairs on my Rangie, as for NRMA I will be going in to their Branch and fixing the problem in person( harder to hang up on me then :twisted: ) Let's hope I can behave myself if not watch the news for me.
