Hi guys ive just got a 04 discovery td5 , i know there are a few threads on oils n what not (ive looked already) my question is this , i live in Mount Isa as you can imagine it gets hot here (54degs sometimes) the new disco comes from Brisbane (never see higher than 35?) so should i go for a "hotter" oil? or any recommendations from anyone up this way ? thanks guys i just dont want to kill my new toy as its still very shiny :p:p

I'm no expert, but it seems to me that, as the engine operates at temperatures far greater than any ambient temperature you are likely to experience, oil is the least of your worries. I would pay far more attention to the state of your cooling system, and the state of all your filters ( it gets a little dusty out there, doesn't it?). I would also do servicing at lesser intervals (dust again).
Any high quality, correct viscosity, turbo diesel engine oil should be fine.
I only worry about temperature/oil choice when it's cold, like in the snow type cold, when poor oil choice can leave your engine without lubrication on start up first thing in the morning.
Now I'm going to duck.....
