I'd love to see one in the flesh. The CX was a bullet-proof machine in its day. A Silverwing was a tarted garden variety, trading on the tails of the flagship Goldwing.

Honda Gold Wing | eBay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-Gold-Wing-TRUE-BARN-FIND-1982-GL500-Honda-Silverwing-Interstate-Stock-ONLY-836-Miles-/291254820294?forcerrptr=true&hash=item43d023ddc6&item=291254820294&pt=US_motorcycles)

It's advertised as a Goldwing, but is in fact a Silverwing. The Goldwing of the day was a flat four 1100.

I rode a silverwing around the states for 3 months back in 07. Great bike. Mine only had 10,000 miles from new too. Sold it for a pittance when I came home. :(

Here's a pic (without panniers)

Both the Ebay and picture above are GL Not CX, the ebay is an early one so same motor.

the second picture is a GL, ether a 500 or 650, since i shares the casings with the 650 even though it may be a 500.

but the real telling point is they are mono shock

CX500 would have to be my favorite bike that I have owned. Unfortunately mine was a dud, the local bike shop told me to get rid of it asap when he found I had bought it. It was a lemon since new :( Didn't listen to him and after a rebuild wore a big end out on a Tassie tour.
I have what i think is a silverwing fairing hanging in my shed if anyone wants one. A mates project that was going in the bin but I couldn't let it be scrapped when I had room to store it.

The second picture (ie my bike :)) was a 500, not a 650. It really didn't keep up with modern American traffic on my trip as it struggled above 70mph. Everyone in California seemed to do 70-85mph everywhere :) The 650 would have been nice.

That picture is of a road tunnel in Yellowstone. Great riding in that area

Sort of - I have lots of boxes and various bit scattered throughout the garage that all together make up a CX. :lol2:

My 650, rode it to Perth and back for the Americas Cup (amongst many other places)

Those photos bring back some memories.
I owned a 1978 (?) CX500 which was my only mode of transport in South Africa between 1984 and 1986 when we were first married. I couldn't afford to run 2 cars.
Eventually swopped it for an air compressor when I got my first company vehicle in 1987 !! The mate I swopped it with restored it and it is still running today.
Great reliable bike as long as you changed the oil regularly. They liked to sieze big end bearings if you didn't.
Mine had a straight through exhaust and sounded realy good. Cops couldn't care in those days.
Thanks for the memories.
No photo's unfortunately.
