what to look for 1996 300tdi disco

hi all looking at a 1996 300tdi disco auto tomorrow, 300,000ks on it asking price is $3000 its a base model back packers have it, so most of there ks would be highway
can anyone give me a few pointers on what to look for?
I have a 98 110 defender 300tdi but want to add a disco to the stable
all advice will be appreciated and taken seriously

I'd carefully check all fluids first. I very much doubt that the backpackers would be concerned with service intervals. Having said that, they're pretty robust old bangers. Check for signs of oil in the coolant (head / head gasket), and see what works in the electrics line. At that price, you can fix a few things and still be in front.
