View Full Version : 6x6 Diff conversion from 4.7 to 4.1

Hello all,
I'm sure this thread/topic has already come up but I can find it.

I recently purchased a 6x6 (ARN): 51867 and I love it, however, on highway cruising speed is a little slow (about 80km/hr)

To help with things I think I would like to convert the diffs from 4.7 to 4.1 and maybe while I'm in there throw some E-lockers in the back two and a tru-track in the front.

Has anyone had some experience in doing this? How did it go, where did you a source the parts from and how much did it cost?

Any advice or experiences would be appreciated.

Thanks

Diff ratio conversion has definitely been done, but I can't think of who did it off the top of my head. After driving one myself on the highway for an hour I defiantly agree it would be a good mod, although you would lose some off the low range as well.

You should be able to find 3 sets of C&P in the right ratio and do the work - or have it done, depending on your skill level. The engine has plenty left to give if you need a few more HP out of it.

Hopefully someone with some more info can help out.

Also PJ (akaTell) did it on his 6x6 Perentie camper.

There are several sources for 4.11 or 4.14 gears for the Rover and Salisbury diffs, but all are designed for the 3.54 carrier. This isn't an issue if you're going to be fitting an e-locker/ARB/Ashcroft/Truetrac/ATB centre, as these are made to the 3.54 dimensions.

Salisbury R&P changeover is reputed to be expensive in labour costs.
