Looking at fan hubs genuine is rather spendy and there's plenty of after market apart from the ones that come in a blue and white box are there any recommended brands?

Given the cooling system is one of the most critical aspects of the 300, just get the best one you can afford. OEM (not genuine from Rover) from a trusted aftermarket supplier, of which there are some on this forum, is the way to go.

I've run a Ford hub and fan Aren't the Ford fan blades oriented the other way from Land Rover so they push not pull? I think I read this on the forum somewhere. Or can you switch it around?

Pit a new one on mine after rebuilding the engine. Think it was a blue box one and was stuffed befor the engine warmed up just wobbled around on itself. Sent it back for a beer Mac one has been fine sofas after 10000km

Ford 6 cylinder ones turn clockwise, V8 ones turn anticlockwise. Pick the right one and you'll be fine.

I purchased one from member Mario "Roverlord off road spares". Don't remember the brand but I trust a Mario, I've had no problems with it and I'm happy to say it fixed my overheating problem. As a bonus it was overnight delivery

I just matched it at the Ford wrecker, the fan has XF on it but I think it was rovercare who said the XF had thermo's,the fan has less blades but each blade is larger and so is the hub,it has kept my Tdi cool in 50 degree heat so it works very well,I bought the original for $20,after lasting 230K I cannot complain. I'm going to get a second hand one to try and see how it goes priced up a xf hub and it was 100 clams down the street eBay is cheaper of course. If the second hand unit fits up and works ile wack a new hub on it

XF (1984-7) had a viscous drive fan, EF/EL (1994-7) had electrics.

No thermo's on an XF.

I'm still waiting for my second hand one to turn up from a work mate. I was thinking last night that it should be a great upgrade I would expect the ford fan to move more air but also if something happens in the bush an old falcon fan should be much easier to find.

Just a FWIW, dear old Dad had an ED, and I remember him saying the aftermarket fan clutches, including the Dayco just didn't cut it compared to the OE Ford one.

I was surprised he had trouble with the Dayco (I remember I gave him the part number out of my catalogue)

I'm just wondering if an ed fan will fit I have one siting on the lawn still attached to the car

In the early 90's I worked within walking distance of a Ford dealer. They sold me a couple of Dayco clutches suit Holden which both had to be returned as they never uncoupled. One even had masses of runout in the clutch if you dared to hold it still. I bought OEM clutches instead, much better quality.

As for the ED clutch, it differs to the XF in the offset. It's too long ago now to remember which clutch was forward of the other but they didn't fit on the wrong vehicle as clearance was limited between the radiator and motor. The thread on the clutch mount is the same though.

Thanks that saves me wasting my time pulling it off.

I need to do my hub. So i was wondering if you had any further update on how you went with the ford fan? Anyone know if I could use the landrover fan on the ford hub or do I have to get to a complete ford unit.

Complete unit, the ford fan and hub is bigger, they are very common at wreckers. Pat

My mate with the wrecking yard has not come throu yet so I still have no idea as to exactly what's involved but I doubt the land rover fan will bolt to the ford hub

As pat says, use the whole xf fan assembly. The rotating mass is heavier so if you use a falcon hub with the lightweight plastic landy fan it will stay locked and roar away all day.

Hi Justin, Pat and other Gurus,
So, just to be sure I've got this right, the one that will fit straight on is a Ford XF V8 fan and hub, yes?

No XF was ever made with a V8, they're all sixes.
