View Full Version : Fuel Filter bleed

Being a newcomer to Diesels I've been trying to find out the procedure for bleeding the fuel system upon replacing the fuel filter.

I thought this info would be pretty easy to come by, but I've read the field/base/unit EMEI's, a few other ISUZU publications, and searched the forums here, but I can't find any info that points out what bolt to crack on the adapter. I've attached a pic of the adapter in my perentie with banjo bolt heads labelled A and B, if anyone could tell me which one I should go for it would be great.

When you change your filter, fill the new one with diesel, do it up, crack bolt a, and then unscrew the silver disc in the bottom left of the screen on the side of the injector pump, this is the hand primer, pump until the air bubbles coming out of your cracked bolt turn into clean fuel, then lock it off. push down and turn primer to lock and you should be good to start.
I'm not sure about these 3.9isuzus but the isuzus I've had in earthmoving gear also had a small gauze filter on the banjo bolt going into the injector pump, they were forever filling up with crap and starving the motor for fuel..

Yes, but how often this needs checking depends on how much crap you have in your fuel tank. And it is almost impossible to get at, as it is inside the engine mount bracket!

Is it that silver disc? The one on my truck looks a bit like a old school silver tap handle, or is that something different?

I think there are several different looking handles on the primer pump - mine is different from the one in the owners manual! Regardless, it is the only thing that looks at all like a hadle on the outside of the injection pump.

Thanks for the info! I thought it might be "A" as it's the higher of the two on the adapter, but I wasn't 100% on it and didn't want to risk pumping air into the system and having to do a full bleed, which I will now inevitably have to do if I want to replace the seized drain plug on the fuel sedimenter :D

Probably every Perentie drain plug is seized, try here for how to remove it, information courtesy of a member from remlr I believe.
