Once I've steam cleaned my engine and gearbox, I want to give the engine a coat of paint.

What was the factory paint colour for a 2.24 petrol motor in 1967?

Was the gearbox painted, or just polished?

From memory, the engine is pale blue, but someone will probably correct this! However, neither the gearbox nor any other alloy engine or transmission bits (including the rocker cover and intake manifold) were either painted or polished, just natural casting finish. (Mine came from the army with the whole lot hammer finish dark blue!)

Colloquially - "duck egg blue".

Officially - light Admiralty grey.

Paint codes are listed at the top of the section.

The SIII engines were the DEB, while MoD engines were similar to Nile Green but I would really like an official colour code for the various era of engines. I have a Dec 1967 SIIb with an orange engine but don't think its the original colour.

James Taylor - Land Rover Series II and IIA Specification Guide, Land Rover Series III Specification Guide.

Meant to be something of an authority on the marque from all accounts.

A knowledgeable man no doubts, but does have numerous known fallibilities and errors in his published books.

I'll wait for an official source

Duck egg blue is correct for Series 3, but there is some debate about Series 2 and 2a.

Series 1 spread bore 2 litre were light admiralty grey, and the 1595cc engines were a grey green colour (don't have a code)

Sent a REMLR PM, the panels aren't ready for paint so trip will be November at the earliest.
