Well I was happy on my first day back at school today (with kids present anyway), until i went to the ag plot and arrived at the chook pen to find a mauled chicken, and an empty cage which used to house the rest, padlock intact. Some miserable low life bastard thought i would be a cool thing to do, to break into the chook pen steal what was left of the chicken which inhabited the school when i arrived 2 yrs ago and kill one of them.

When i arrived 2yrs ago, the school had 15+ chickens. Over that time people have stolen them one by one, no dead bodies, just gone. I tried hatching babies, but they were locked in the shed, and someone broke in and stole them as well. WTF do i have to do to educate kids when **** wits do this?

No there is no way that the cat or fox would get the chook out, and there is no way a fox could eat 5 whole chickens with out a feather being left behind. The wire has been bent back at the top of the fence, where it meets the boys toilet block. Matt

Definitely not a fox, there is nowhere down low for them to get in. and 5 chickens going missing in one go? One at a time i could accept that but they always dissapear in groups, and the night before someone broke into the feed shed and trashed that. They didnt take anything, just ripped all the bags open and smashed all the walls with a spade. Matt

If you new some of the feral filth that inhabit this place you would understand. They have nothing better to do. They rip the veges out of the kids vege plots on a regular basis. We planted a huge crop of sweetcorn, and in the first week of the holidays some one flattend some of it. Why? Your guess is as good as mine. Matt

Sad Bastards, product of poor breeding...
What a bout a short story in the school rag asking for spare chooks to be donated. I know that works where I work. The parents of the little buggers will castigate the lowlifes in front of their kids and maybe some guilt will rub off!
There is a risk you will end up with 100's of donated chooks style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif

It has had some good come out of it. I wont be getting anymore chooks for a while. But the good thing is, it has finally shown the boss, i need some money to upgrade things, such as fences and shed to keep the low life bastards out. Matt

Damm!!
Here I thought I'd Tuck into some KFC and read a few post but now I'm feeling guilty for eating chicken

Matt your problem isn't going away over night simply because of a few fences be it because of foxes or some other type of animal of the two legged variety. I can recall our Ag teacher having the same problems when I was a Kid. And working in the industry (security) only has reinforced my belief in if someone wants in bad enough even the toughest security measures won't stop them.

If there was even the slightest chance of a fox or wild dog getting in it would have, they are by nature cunning. If on the other hand it was a two legged animal then you'll need to make it more like a prision farm then an educational one to stop the distruction, but remember if they want to get in bad enough they will.

Don't pretend for one minute that Investing in a camera system will help stop it as in almost 10yrs in the industry I have never seen a camera leap from a wall to apprehend anyone.

Kids I have found are the best security you can find, When I used to do patrols on schools in Western Suburbs of Sydney for the Education Dept. I found that there where those who would help you catch who it was and those who didn't give a stuff. It was normally the later responsible for the trouble.

Give the Kids a sence of ownership over it make it affect them as much as it has you. Then if it is a student or a local kid who is damaging your ag plot then you'll find out alot quicker as they will weed out just who it is.

Also remember this kids who generally commit these type of things love to tell people about it, by giving the kids ownership over it they will hear about it before you. Just look for the kid with a chicken drum stick wedged up his arse. 8O

And if that does't work you live close to the power station hook up to the juice and fry the bastards

The thing is with these kids, is, they are lazy. The sheep pen is 12 foot high with barbed wire and they havent even bother trying. But the Chook pen is the same height, but some of the sides of the fence are made up by the boys toilets block. They get on the roof and jump in. If i can work out how to stop them doing this, i will at least minimise it. But i do agree with what you are saying, and making the kids take ownership is something i am working hard to do, but when most of the dick head boys thing its funny, it makes it hard. Matt

From previous experiences save your money on the camera's and invest it some other way.

Camera Systems aren't cheap matt, just to buy a properly an enclosed camera to do the job your lookin at $1000's, then you'll need it installed to a recorder, And unless you intend on watching it 24/7 you still wont know until its too late, plus most kids where caps and you wont be able to make out their faces anyway.

My guess is that if you suspect them coming from the top of the boys toilets attempt to stop access to the roof area. Barb wire wont do the trick and I doubt you'll be allowed to use razor wire for obvious reasons, Some type of audible alarm might work but without seeing your site first hand I am unable to say what would be best suited. My guess is that like most schools yours would be monitored an something connected to that system would be better suited. You need to have something that either stops them from getting in or lets the whole world know they are there.

Oh and by the way I have forwarded my usual consultation fee for my services style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif

If you want I'll go out with you on the weekend and take a look at it for you. Should give you a better idea on options then.

The sad thing about this sort of thing is the kids who enjoy and learn from the interaction, end up being the ones punished. As people like Ace can't be bothered with the heartache associated with the disapointment. Stop trying to make the subject interesting, end up doing the bare minimum. The trouble makers don't care and always have the old fail safe "No one cared about me when I was a kid" excuse for all the problems in their miserable lives.
A very sorry mess no matter how you look at it.

If the sides of the chook pen are 12' high, and it backs on to the toilet block, the intruders jump in, after accessing the roof, What about stringing the chook roof area with "Strip Grazing Tape" atached to a "Redback "unit powered by (1) a car battery, (2) a power outlet such as the security lights or light socket in the toilet block? if the strip tape is threaded close enought 10-12 inches, when they jump in they will get a real kick outta life, 8O AND it will be high enough to not be a hazzard to law abiding students  just don't widely advertise it style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif You may be supprised at the size of the KIDS
