Spotlight placement

A SA police publication "lights TIP 12 " tells me I cannot put spot lights on the roof rack, and I understand on the bull bar its either 2 or 4. Does anyone know if two can be placed on the bull bar one above the other on the centre line between the existing two spotties?

I can't comment on SA, but the general rule is they have to be in pairs with the two in the pair on the same level. In some states this has been modified for light bars.

Qld. now allow a single centrally mounted light on late model cars. This was brought about by the advent of LED light bars. The ADR's allowed a single central light on vehicles built before I think, 1991. Lights may not be mounted on top of a bullbar or be visible from the driver's eye position. A maximum of two pairs of "additional headlights" may be fitted and must be mounted symetrically.

Hi, Engineering, electrical and some electronics I understand but must confess Im learning how to use this forum. not sure if my thanks gets though but here goes.
Thanks to all who responded to my question on spotlight placement. The detail was appreciated and even the short answers are a seed for further research. Following your help I found web site SA.GOV.AU and searched for MR1517 this detailed also SA s position. Once again many thanks to those who responded.

I think you may get around this by them being off road lights not intended for use on road. If you admit to them being used as on road driving lamps they could probably ping you.
I have had 2 x spots and 2 x driving light on my Defender for years and never questioned, with the 2 x driving light on the top of the bullbar, no where else to put them.
There are literally thousands of 4x4s getting around with multiple lights including light bars and roof or roof rack mounted lights. Same with roll bar lights.
May technically be non compliant but rarely enforeced.
There used to be a lot of spotties sold as off road or competition use only that I am sure a lot of us have fitted at some point.

Two things come to mind here. first, Qld Transport forbid lights being fitted to the top of any bulbar. Second, all lights fitted must be operational according to the QT web-site.

No, because that is a fog light, not an "additional headlamp" as the authorities call long range driving lights. Austin A90 Atlantics had one also.

I think they've relaxed a little now, too busy chasing outlaw bikies or something, but some QLD coppers were defecting for a light bar as it is one centrally mounted light. The advice given to get around it was to wrap a strip of electrical tape around the middle and... voilà! Two symmetrical lights!
