View Full Version : D4 back of seat screens
catch-22
16th October 2014, 07:50 PM
I'm trying to work out what items should come with a D4 with DVD screens on the back of the front seats. Not sure if they can play individual DVD's or one telly and one another channel etc....
On an 09 HSE with Hi-ICE, should it have one or two remote controls. What about headphones? And silly one, where is the DVD player/s?
Cheers

6 stack DVD is in the back RHS bin. There is one remote control and 2 headphones. Only one dvd can play at a time. Each screen can have either TV, DVD, aux, cd or iPod/USB.

Forgot to add that you can add an auxiliary video source, the inputs are at the back of the center console. You could plug in another DVD player or a media center (I have one that uses 12v although I haven't tried it yet) here if you want another video source.
Also when using radio, cd, ipod and usb there is no video only sound.

As good as integrated video systems are, those watching them have to watch the same show playing.
We used this portable 2TB hard drive which has its own wifi network that anyone with a tablet (or even a smartphone) can log onto and choose what they want to watch.

We went to the red centre in July. I filled it with tv and movies and there was no complaints from anyone even though some of the day's we were driving were very long and monotonous.

We have the dvd player in the front head unit, just a single one. Have one remote control and two sets of headphones. We can play divx video files through the screens so we can do two different video sources one dvd and the other either the aux in or the divx video files. I have a 2012 D4 with the HK logic 7.

My d4 has aftermarket headrest that are individually powered can play anything and are fully independent of each other. And on eBay very cheap. They even have a games console and a disc with 500 games. The secret is to find one that looks like the headrest from your car

I like the look of these much better looking unit then mine they can even transmit to your radio so everyone can listen bigger screens cheap and touch screen. The second or third photo is taken in a disco 4 as well and they offer colour that should match a disco interior beige .my only complaint of mine is that the headrest itself is not tight enough it doesn't flop around but I would like it more firmer. With ours we let the sound play through the internal speaker and the quality is ok

I bought some off ebay a while back.
The were fine in the Nissan and Subie, but when I put them in the D4, I found that the design of LR headrests are a little different.
On the LR headrest, the posts are right at the back, but a std headrest has them in the centre. So changing them over means the dvd headrest sits too far back on the seat and doesn't offer the protection a head rest is supposed to. Or if the passenger wants to lean their head back, its very uncomfortable.
We actually need a little bolster cushion to make them practical.
Not sure if all are like that, but check how far forward they sit from the posts and compare to the LR ones before buying

Good point Dingo,
I actually find the D4 & previous RRS headrests a little out of my comfort zone as they are, it ****es me off that they have such basic adjustment...If these screens came with back and forth adjustment and up/down they would be a major improvement, as they are with screens is an improvement for sure .... but I wonder if LR has an after market electric 2D adjustable rest????
