I am the lucky (hopefully) winner of a RFSV at the recent Melbourne auction, I am thinking of driving it back to Adelaide after checking fluids, any advice?
Also does anyone know of a reasonable priced garage in Melbourne were I can get oil's changed?

Can't help you on that front mate, but I have read a 'bolt check' is a good idea with the Perenties.
Specifically, the prop shafts, wheel nuts and steering linkages - all the stuff you don't want to go wrong...
Having said that I worked with a fellow who completed such checks on vehicles direct from the manufacturer (Ford/GM) with similar issues.
Either way, congratulations and no doubt you'll be referred to a good workshop in Melbourne.
Have fun.
Matt.

I just got my Perentie RWC'd by a very knowledgeable mob in East Bentleigh. They had quite a lot of Disco's Defenders & Rangies getting serviced there & had done quite a few Perentie services & pre checks. The only worry is that they are quite close to Moorabbin where the sales were, but Gray's moved away to Dandenong, so it would be further to drive with an unknown vehicle.

When I flew to QLD to collect my FFR, I had some basic tools with me, mainly common LR sized sockets and spanners, a couple of screwdrivers and a heap of cable ties.
I checked all the usual stuff-engine oil, coolant, diff oil level, gearbox and transfer levels; then checked for bearing play and steering slop and any loose bolts and nuts. There wasn't anything particularly pressing apart from bolts on one drive flange being finger tight.
The GM120 told me when the last service was done and knowing it was about 1000km before I purchased it, drove it on the army's oil back to Sydney.
If you know your way around a Landy, there isn't much that couldn't be checked on the side of the road, or in a mate's driveway.

I could recommend Mawson Motors in Moolap, Geelong. Not that far from the auctions and heading back to Adelaide. Lots of experience their with peer ties and other pansies, (including mine). There is also several older military vehicles being restored there as well for your entertainment.

I actually prefer peer ties and pansies. I have a series 3 pansy myself. Would love to get a peer tie at some stage.

Sorry if I started something. I drive a Single cab 130 Defender Pansy. It is going to undergo a cab extension soon. Think I'll repaint it pink now

Have you got your unregistered vehicle permit? You can buy them on line.

Checked everything all looked good, all fluids newish spent 1hr underneath & around all looked ok (fluids included 95% fuel).
Can not believe the trip home, sat on the road like glue eventually cruised at 100 & 110km/hr slowed down to 80 on about 7 hills, swap down to 3rd 3 times on hills apart from the noise & a little bit warm in the cab damn thing road better then my 2 yr old company Territory.
