Ive had this for 2 weeks and have just finished getting it ready for its warrant of fitness, it failed on passenger footwell rusty hole, brake imbalance, rear wheel bearings, no brake lights and rust in the bonnet that was too close to the engine. which was suprising as i thought it would be more.
The wheel bearings were finger tight, so i removed and re-greased and tightened accordingly, had the footwell welded up, fixed the brake wiring and installed new slave cylinders on the front left as they were leaking and picked up a brand new bonnet for $120.
This is my first landy, ive been after one for a few years but have just bit the bullet and sold my 02 stagea wagon, before that i had quite a few different bmws.
But as i have 2 malamutes that are big and i do a lot of dryland sledding i was constantly vacuuming and cleaning the blankets i used to cover the seats, so this is perfect as i can literally waterblast the dirt and mud out of the back, and my dog scooter fits in front of the back seats.
This was an ex government landy, Department of Conservation, and had a 202 conversion and fairey overdrive fitted in 71, it seems it was a pale blue, it had been painted a dark green colour and black inside when i got it.
It was pretty shabby and peeling, so gave it a rattle can matte black so it doesnt look like something i found on a farm, which in fact is where i got it.
its only been running for 2 years after being pretty much parked up for 5 years.
My plans now its road legal are to give it a sand inside, prime/rust protecter and stick down some sound deadening up front, followed by neoprene matting and then rubber matting(horse trailer matting) same up the back but prob wont worry about sound deadening, probably primer and bitumen paint the wheel wells from underneath with the rubber matting stuck underneath also.
Probably give it a sand and roller paint in Nato green over christmas holidays.
Ive stuck a couple of pictures of my inspiration in here too.
Also anyone know what the unpainted spots on the wheel well behind the rear seats are?
I seem to have a s3 dash? is this a refit?
The seatbelt anchor points look like an add on, with 2 holes that are missing bolts any ideas what they were for?
Lastly, cheers for all the info, ive been meaning to post earlier but most of my questions ive already found on here answered.
Here is the full album below,..
