I was in the same predicament about 8 months ago with money not being a big worry it was either an SDV6 HSE RRS or SDV6 HSE D4, and the D4 won it just because of the features and the practicality and space being able to load it up with stuff and half the time i dont need a trailer any more for when we picked up a new front load washer or dining table both fitted in the back no problems also the extra seats are always handy for us, dont have kids but sometimes travel with extra people so always handy.
I personally love the shape of both cars, but when it came to the crunch for me buying new i couldn't see the extra value in spending so much more the the RRS and getting less seats and less space.
Thats only my thoughts, just the practicality and space in the D4 was a big seller for me, good luck searching and I'm sure no matter what you chose it will be a great car!!

What they said - depends on how many there are of you and what you want to use it for - for me the RRS is fine but there is at most two of us.
The slope of the rear door on the RRS does cut into load space in the rear - not an issue for me but maybe for others.

G'day XHPBT1,
I think you are going to get a bunch of recommendations based around other peoples choices... for example I'd suggest a white 2012 SDV6 SE.. cause I love mine :p.
What you want to do is think about how you are going to use it.... the running gear under a D4 and an RRS is basically the same.... so one of the biggest differences is internal size. If you have 6 kids.... the choice is obvious.
Also the range of off road accessories for the D4 is wider than the RRS... but that is improving.
So I'd get out and drive a few of each ... make a short list of the things you really want and those that don't matter to you...and together with the input from this mob, the choice should get a lot easier.
Oh.. and read heaps of threads in here..... many are very informative.
 Have fun!... :burnrubber:

I had a RRS 4.4 v8 Petrol albeit a 2006, I now have a 2010 D4 SE TDV6 3.0.
I like the D4 a little better due to the softer ride, more room and more power.
I think it's more practical for a growing family, even the SWMBO pefers the D4 over the sport!!!
And after saying all that I still miss the sport! BUT I also miss the RRC as well.:( wish I never sold it actually :(:(:(
Hope this helps:p

Thankyou for the info I can't seem to find too much info on the differences on running gear eg suspension etc. from 2011 D4 to 2014 apart from the obvious is there a model that I should stay away from?

We are a bit like Garycol, have had nothing but RRS, love them, just right size for the two of us if travelling. Often given D4's as loaners, nice, but not as easy as Sport to run around town in. However, if you need space/seats, that is way to go. Both very nice to drive.:)

Personally I was looking at other SUVs at the time I bought my RRS as I wanted:
-good on and off road
-stylish but understated
-good interior
-good equipment
I was impressed with D4 too, but the only D4's in my price range at that point had high k's (over 200K). I wasn't really overwhelmed with the looks or interior of the D3, and since I was spending twice the amount I had ever spent on a car before, I wanted to love it.
I went for the 2008 RRS because it did tick all those boxes. I do love the car and am planning to keep it - "the Rangie" is an institution in my circle of friends, but if hypothetically I were looking at a 2010-2013 Sport vs a D4, obviously the Sport still has the X factor and the road presence, but I would still have to go a later D4:
-those extra two seats would've come in handy numerous times
-the D4 is available with all the options the Sport is and you can get a couple of years newer for the same price Sports are going for.
-Newer D4s have the 8HP trans. Sports only ever came with the 6HP28 to my knowledge.

for mine it is a no brainer. Buy the D4 and use the savings to set it up. I would buy the best spec you can SE or HSE but even my base TSV6 with just a few options is a lot of car for the money. How else might you use the $20 k+ price difference. (assuming you are talking new car) Bar, winch, rear mount, sliders, snorkel and draws.
If that is not you thing, use the savings to buy the other 1/2 a new kia so she keeps her hands off your D4 keys.

^^^^^^^ Agree
Whilst admitting it is also a personal choice, I thought the extra $ for. RRS could be spent on accessories for the D4 and still come out in front. For me personally the 7 seat option in the D4 was the decider. But, each to their own. Good luck.

We considered a RRS about two years ago, after driving a new one decided the Disco was far more practical and felt way less cramped.
Rapt that we bought the D4, it's easily the best vehicle and best value for money vehicle that I have ever owned.

We went through the same dilemma, wife wanted RRS, me d4. Common sense prevailed and I chose d4, predominately based on what we wanted to do with the vehicle. Ie tow 6mtr caravan and 6mtr boat and trailer, plus use to go bush, just couldn't picture brush scratches on the side of a rrs, whereas on a d4, adds to the overall appeal.
Both vehicles drove great on test drive conditions, although imoo, the huge rear space in the d4 was an added attraction.
Good luck.

Having just bought our first Land Rover, we went for the D4 due to price, spec level, 7 seats ( there are 5 of us) and that 3.0l TT engine!
To be honest didn't really look at the RRS, I was looking at other makes.
It really is a personal choice, the RRS in black looks awesome as well !
