I was on the LR website today, which has been update to include the MY15 Discovery and I noticed in the build your own, when it shows the interior shot, the electric park brake control has moved from the right hand side of the console as it is in my MY14, to now be on the left side.

Oh and the car they use in the pic is right hand drive too, maybe done to free up a little bit more useable space on the drivers side, other than that I can't think why it would be done..interesting though.

Maybe to make it easier for a passenger to get at in an emergency as these will bring the car to a rapid halt when pulled on while the car is moving.

It actually pulls the car up quite nicely not to hard to not soft, i was under the impression it was a really had stop but then i stood on the brakes, hard from 80kms to compare the park brake stop and brake pedal stop, bloody hell they are good brakes it pulls up so quick it really surprised me how good they were.

Then i thought about it and was like well i guess they dont want the park brake pulling it up to hard as it would make it hard to control, so yeah its a nice firm stop with the emergency brake when compared to a hard pedal stop.

My understanding is that it's not simply applying the parking brake but that it uses the smarts of the terrain control and ABS etc to pull the car up. It also stops the car once it's below about 5kph applies the handbrake and turns the lights (hazard I think) on.

No your dead right there it uses the ABS system to bring the car down to 3kmh then after that it applies the parking brake, from the times i have played with it does not turn the hazard lights on.

Its certainly a great system i was looking at a new HSV Maloo the other day and was talking to the salesman, as they have an electric park brake and it just uses the park brake callipers and not the ABS because i was telling the salesman about how Land Rovers works and i asked what if i pull this park brake on at 100kmh and he basically said the ass will just skip along same as if you applied the normal park brake and probably do nothing really to bring the car to a stop.

I guess I just assumed that all electric park brake systems worked similar to LRs with using the ABS to stop then applying the park brake, but obviously they dont.
