Great choice in truck and your tray frame looks solid. I'm going to redo my tray to facilitate storing my spare wheel underneath as you have done. If it's not too much trouble, could take some snaps of the fixing points where you've attached the tray to the chassis.

Hi Beery,
looks good--same as my one from Dubbo LR, is the tray by Dubbo City Welding as looks identical to the one they did for me? Also my car only 16K kms but includes Kimberley and Centre and no issues at all, runs very quietly and everything works as it should. Also found the dealer very good to deal with.

Finally picked it up yesterday arvo. Dubbo City Welding and Dubbo LR have done a great job. But I did find a nut had fallen off on the driveway from under the sill somewhere...I hope that doesn't continue!

Thanks iClick,

The finished result with the tray is excellent, although I wouldn't want it any higher. I think if I had wider tyres I would rule out putting the spare under the tray.
I'll get some photos of the mounts for you shortly.

Yeah the tray was done by Dubbo City Welding. Their work is excellent IMO and the powder coating job has to be seen to be believed!

I aksed them for the same headboard as yours, but the rest of the tray is slightly different. I think mine sits slightly lower according to them.

Its driving great so far...with a total of 54km on the clock!

That looks mint! I've always liked the HCPU and thought traybacks tended to look a bit ungainly, but the proportions on that are spot-on. I hope you enjoy it.

Thanks! I deliberated for a long time over the tray length, 1.8m looks too short, 2.0m looks a tad too long, so I settled on 1.9m and im very happy with it. The only thing that could've made it absolutely perfect (IMO) is if it sat an inch or two lower. But then I'd have to put the spare in the tray, which I didn't want.

Hi I notice later on you changed your tyres to XZL's?

Did you do this via the dealer or did you change them yourself?

Hi Alex,
I organised and paid for the XZL's myself, but the dealer took it to the tyre shop for me during pre-delivery.

Just a couple of small jobs on the 130 today.

Made a radiator screen with Cyclone aluminium flywire
Unbolted the brackets between the back seats and the back wall of the cab to give them a fraction more recline. Got about an inch more recline...a small but worthwhile amount.

Well, I know what I'll be doing on the 130 this weekend.
I was surprised at just how heavy and solid it feels.
Asked for NO ecu but they also left out the plug and tail which I'll have to chase up.

Well I got it done at last. Pretty happy with the result.

Anyone else fitting the N type electrics socket in the crossmember, do yourself a favour and chuck the supplied mounting bolts and get some black, panhead self tappers instead. Drill pilot holes to suit and drive the screws in.
Through stupidity and or stubborness, I perservered with getting the nuts tightened on the supplied bolts. Self tappers would have saved an hour or more.

Awesome idea with the fly screen , I always wondered why they didn't make the seat bracket with that extra inch, I also unbolted mine but they rattled over every bump, so I needed to totally remove brackets.

concrates on the new truck looking great, exciting times, I've only had mine for 3 week but I can't wait to start her up every morning they just have a amazing presents and feel, not sure if it just the novelty hasn't worn off but i hope it never ware's off. Ahh good idea on removing the seat brackets...mine have been rattling too. Thanks for the tip!
It would have been so easy for them to make a frame behind the grill to slide a screen into. Mine works well and i can slide out the bottom without removing the grill.

Installed the cruise control yesterday. Wow it makes the 130 a pleasure to drive on the highway now.
Not having to constantly watch the speedo really does increase the enjoyment from driving. Makes it safer too I reckon, more concentration on looking out the windows.

Installation wasn't overly difficult, just fiddly. There were a few wire splices to do, one at the clutch switch, two at the brake switch and one at the instrument cluster.
The accelerator wiring is all plug & play, no splicing.

I can highly recommend putting cruise control in a puma, even after just a short 80km test run.

Very nice build. Just keep a close eye on those tray mounting points, more so if you do some hard road miles. My 110's tray was mounted very similar and it managed to crack each of the factory tabs it was bolted to. I found out later that it was too rigid. Should only be bolted front and rear and only be resting on the intermediate points. But yours may be shorter than the 110 tray.

Hi Beery,
Just wondering which cruise control you got and from whom?

Beery
4th August 2015, 05:31 PM
Hi Marty,

Autostrada is the brand it is sold under in Australia.

The unit is actually an 'e-Cruise' manufactured by Lindgaard Pedersen in Denmark. Probably half of the different cruise controls you see on the market are manufactured by them. Very reputable.

I bought it online through United Fuel Injection in Perth. Best price I could find.

For a while now I've thinking of ways to filter the cabin air. Its as much to do with preventing the aircon evaporator and heater fins from blocking up as it is to do with breathing cleaner air.

This one is to filter the recycled air inside the cabin. I haven't worked out a good solution for the fresh air intake yet.

I bought a couple of activated carbon filters on ebay that are designed to fit BA Falcons. They are a copy of the Ryco RCA100C but a LOT cheaper, try $10 for two as opposed to $50 for one.
https://scontent-lax3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpf1/v/t1.0-9/11870737_10154080996914688_3119541608161112536_n.j pg?oh=1398c7676f71a315a540607c6d201c4e&oe=563C7D95

Originally I was going to use double sided tape to stick the filter over the return air vent. But then decided a better option would be to use some large cable ties as these would pull the filter tight against the vent.

I used some sticky foam weatherseal around the edge of the filter to make a good seal when the cable ties were pulled tight.

https://scontent-lax3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpf1/v/t1.0-9/11902292_10154080998884688_4504864638130044211_n.j pg?oh=dae3abfa4656ebec6b007e95b9a8a85e&oe=566CBAAE

I used three cable ties to spread the pressure and give a good hold.

https://scontent-lax3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpa1/v/t1.0-9/11225262_10154081000949688_3507264900701742758_n.j pg?oh=a04553d8b8c7898b709bf5be90ae7328&oe=566B2468

Using a knife, I poked two holes for each cable tie, one above and one below the centre spine of the filter.

https://scontent-lax3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xtp1/v/t1.0-9/11866372_10154081001089688_7029041857603143346_n.j pg?oh=1f2310176b17d2b01c7c46ac88176f50&oe=566C2812

The filter is surprisingly strong and ridgid, but for a bit more strength, I cut an old hacksaw blade to length and slid it in under the cable ties. This was all I could find at the time, but a piece of 1/8 rod or small flat bar would be better.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xpf1/v/t1.0-9/11903986_10154081001659688_555294445330823348_n.jp g?oh=2676595396263730151148a9e4336145&oe=567BA3EF&__gda__=1451108560_91d23d1632606f9b284760a51f8732a d

Tightened up the ties and made sure the foam on the back had a good seal all the way around. Done.

https://scontent-lax3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpf1/v/t1.0-9/11039229_10154081596474688_7911301179690134882_n.j pg?oh=31655e9a3681a3caa1751903ccdbdc53&oe=566B1A5E

It knocks a bit of noise out of the fan too which is normally loud when on recycle.
It also cant be seen when sitting in the passenger's seat and it doesn't get in the way of your feet.

This is something I've been meaning to test for a few weeks now. My new Allisport intercooler which I bought at the same time as the BAS remap.

I only installed the intercooler a fortnight ago but I've been running the remap for several weeks now and monitoring the ECU info.

Long story short. With the standard intercooler, I was measuring post intercooler temperatures of up to 50 degrees c ABOVE ambient.
This is with maximum boost pressure (gauge, not absolute) up around 22psi.

Then I installed this sucker...
https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xta1/v/t1.0-9/10313159_10153896516909688_3312473847473963134_n.j pg?oh=82a8060f38fcc16ef60f07bfbbd9fe86&oe=566C21EC&__gda__=1447164833_9d9a0d0d2a711221e10a31ed999e3de 6

Its a tight fit

https://scontent-lax3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpt1/v/t1.0-9/11892245_10154080995839688_222063112400704497_n.jp g?oh=d486a02a91f040a49bcc0e28b044a52d&oe=56373681

I've been driving around for the last couple of weeks with it in, but hadn't had a chance to hook up the BAS2 and monitor the temperatures...

Well blow me down!!...

Today, with the air temp around 24 degrees, around town, under throttle I measured intake temp post intercooler at...24 degrees. Looks good, I was impressed.

But how does it go at highway speeds?

Out past the edge of town I pushed it hard through the gears and couldn't get the post intercooler temps more than 6 degrees above ambient with maximum boost!

Switch on the aircon, full throttle, 6th gear, 110km/h. Couldn't get the post intercooler temps more than 10 degrees above ambient!

Back off the throttle, switch off aircon and cruise at 110km/h and post IC temps are back to ambient +6 degrees.

I also have a flywire screen behind the grill which would restrict airflow a bit.

Needles to say, the results have blown me away. I have gone from post IC temps of 50 degrees above ambient down to no more than 10 degrees above ambient.
In the long run this has got to be a positive influence on the engine and fuel economy.

The initial cost of the intercooler has almost been forgotten now!

I wish you hadn't told me about the I/C :o

Did you see the D44 Defender cabin filter, effective but daggy, the snow cowl could be a better starting point

Beery
1st September 2015, 06:54 AM
The intercooler is worth every dollar in my opinion ;)

I've also installed a PEL 500110 thermostat which is giving me around 6 degree cooler running temps.

I can't stand the look of the snow cowl.
Im thinking someone with the skills and facilities needs to design a new air duct which actually secures to the fan housing and incorporates a sealed filter housing to accept a common and readily available filter like the one I have used.
Nugget! Are you listening!
