Hi all. Wanting to set up my Staun deflators for the D3. Any advice on minimum pressures for Vic high country kind of work with Scorpion ATRs in 255/60 18?

Thanks

I have not been to the Victorian high country ( on the wish list ) but I have used the thirds rule successfully up North. If you are running 40 odd psi on blacktop, take 1/3 off the pressure for gravel, ( so mid 20'S ) and another 1/3 off for sand ( 16 to 18 psi ) In my experience the lower profile rubber works better at 16 where you may have been using 18 previously.

You really need to try a few different pressures, as each tyre/profile combination is going to work differently. Should be fun finding out.

Don't go too low. Sidewalls are the big weakness in these tyre sizes so you want to avoid them bulging too much or getting pinched on rocks.

It's been a while since I ran 18"s up there but from memory I think I used to drop them about 6-8 psi from highway pressures - which for me are usually 1 or 2 psi above placard pressures. You'll need to experiment a bit as it will depend on the load you are carrying too.

Cheers,
Jon

Just a note on the stauns, iv had these for a few years and have found them to be unreliable in keeping there pressure setting. Before use give the little pole that stick out the top a pull dirt and grit jams it up and it won't work properly. I just have them set to let the tyre right down . Put them on in the same order as I take them off I watch the first tyre when it looks right I take them off in the same order, then check and adjust the last couple of psi with my gauge. Enjoy the Vic high country I would love to get over there one day

To give you an idea Will, I had GG AT2s in 255/60/18 on our first trip to the HC, I ran 25psi front and 30psi rear, I had 3 flats in succesion over 4 days, all sidewall strikes, we had 2 in a row the first 2 days, I managed to repair one so we could get to a tyre place 2 days later, couldn't go for a drive, back to camp, pack up go to next camp in the morning, go for a drive, another punchure:mad:

Get another tyre, put the pressures up to just under road pressures, from memory 30 front and 35 rear, it was OK after that, although I was more aware when driving on the tracks and avoided some tracks, from memory GGs are the same as the ATRs, not LT construction, so have weak sidewalls.
