Hi Long time!,

I really needs some advice ASAP on my D2 TD5 5 speed Manual.

My clutch pedal in the last 24 hours has become "light" and slaps back when released. Car drives great otherwise.

Today I took the old girl for a wash and changing gears was difficult. Got to the car wash and could not get reverse.

I got her to where I am staying but I need a mechanic to fix it ASAP this is the car I use to get to work. I normally live in Melbourne but am away for work so need to be careful of not getting ripped which I cannot afford right now.

1. What is happening and what needs to be done to fix it?

2. What is it likely to cost ( what should I expect I am no mechanic nor am I loaded!)

Guidence appreciated.

Oh, I have recovered plenty of total strangers ..... so my Karma account is pretty good!

Is there any fluid in the reservoir? If not then most likely the slave cylinder has been leaking, with the fluid going into the bell housing and exitting via the drain hole, in which case put some more fluid in to get you going, probably also requiring a bleed. See to the slave cylinder as a matter of urgency.

If there's fluid then hopefully the master cylinder needs overhauling or replacing rather than the clutch fork disintegrating or the pressure plate has failed.

Hi, provided the fluid is not low try to "pump" the pedal 3-4 times and if it improves things replace both(master and slave) cylinders... they are not very expensive and that's the good practice cos if both are old the unreplaced one will fail soon anyway cos the new one will put stress on it... and old slave will hardly bare the bigger pressure of a new master and an old master will not handle much the extra "resistance" of a new slave... i've seen this happening in many cases, IMO it's better to have a "clean start" in this area especially if you must pay a mechanic
