Hi,

I don't have a bull bar, and am thinking of attaching a Light bar (60cm, 3.3kg) directly into the leading edge of the bonnet. It won't protrude past the bumper, so should be legal.
I am almost sure the bonnet is structurally strong enough to take the weight, but wanted to know if anybody else had done similar. One other concern may be the bolts that came with the bar being about 8mm, if they may be a weak point.
Before you ask, the mounting points are a tad too narrow to mount on the bumper, and the bonnet seems the easiest option

Cheers,

Duncan

I'd suggest you check with your state rules and legislation, but most don't allow items mounted on the bonnet - it is why you generally don't see bonnet badges sticking up any more (e.g. the old Jaguar, Ford LTD or Mercedes bonnet badges) and scoops and vents have strict sizing specifications.

I saw a light pod that was able to be mounted flush into body panals in an add in a 4wd magazine I will dig it up...

The over engineering of the mounting is needed to prevent thieves helping themselves to it is going to be the problem.

Any item that can be seen from the legislated position of the driver's eyes is not permitted under Qld. Transport regs. nor may lights be fitted to the top of any bullbar.

didnt someone on here make a bracket that fitted through grille to hold lightbar?

Thanks for the replies.
The ADR seem to concentrate on the height of driving lights and the fitting of bullbars, so can't get a clear idea of whether it may be legal. I note that QLD TMR has issued a recent advisory on light bars (I am in NSW) that accommodates them re; central positioning and odd numbers. But that doesn't help me.
Perhaps I may look again at a bracket from behind the grill.
As for thieving - I've had some weird stuff taken from cars in the past. Light bar was cheap so I won't cry a river if some low life wants it.

VSB 14 may assist you if your state is part of the NCOP.
