I don't mind Fat Yak or a couple of Coopers brews. Their "Extra Strong Vintage Ale" was a cracker! I won't get in to "best beer" arguments as taste is a lot of different things to different people. I mean, what's wrong with fresh oysters? Nothing!
Just enjoy what you drink & remember "Moderation is For Monks"

Coopers is still today the sole major brewer 100% owned by Australians

Me too. Most disappointed when they stopped making it the first time. Then production was restarted but the product was changed in an attempt to broaden its market appeal by making it a lighter taste.
I did really like XXXX Games Special which was put back into short term production as Special Brew.

I have to agree with Robbo. It's good value for money too. Must be a bit careful with the rate of consumption though. It's a little stronger than most Australian beers.

Just my opinion, but I really cannot tell the difference in taste between XXXX, VB, Tooheys New, Carlton Cold/Draught, Fosters and Crown Lager, as far as I'm concerned, Crown Lager is Fosters with a fancy label and different bottle, that way it sells here.
Thankfully brewers like the guys at Malt Shovel(Tooheys) and Coopers are still brewing in the traditional style, and realise drinkers like the taste of hops and malt in a beer.
AND, thank goodness for craft brewers, there's so many now, some good, some very good and some bad, but it's good when touring, you can find a craft brewary almost anywhere now, especially in country Victoria:twobeers:
I'm talking Australia only

When I was in Melb. a few weeks ago we got to know about a little brewery in Croydon called The Public Brewery The Public Brewery (http://thepublicbrewery.com.au/)
So naturally we had to try a 'few'.
In short great beers and great place.
Tried their Citra pale ale and their Galaxy amber ale on tap and both are very good beers.
These little boutique/micro breweries are such a refreshing concept if you like trying different beers and as I do brew yourself.
The young head brewer there is more than happy to take you around and show you the brewing process.
Alll in all a bloody nice change to the mainstream mega breweries and an insight into what beer used to taste like before streamlined mass production.
Cheers, Hmmm

I must admit I am a Coopers pale Ale man myself, however with the explosion of mico breweries and range available even at BWS I often just buy anything a bit different to try and enjoy the experience of a new taste.
I was a fan of Red Back wheat beer but I have not seen it in a long time. Are they still making it?

If you're in Ireland then yes, but the kegged stuff in Australia is brewed here and doesn't have the same flavour. The canned stuff is brewed in Ireland and has a better taste IMO. :)

Is it just me, or is it getting virtually impossible to get the proper imported Guinness? I have been looking high and low, and no-one in Western Sydney seems to be stocking it. Is there a world shortage of genuine Irish Guinness that I don't know about?
That is why I went for the Cascade Export Stout. A very enjoyable drop nonetheless.

No shortage, it's readily available in Vic, it's my current preferred drop. :) I don't drink it on tap as per my previous post, but my local Foodworks stocks the imported stuff, as does Liquor Land here - maybe give them a try?

I've been a confirmed Coopers drinker since around 1973.
I brew most of their recipes of the month.
I usually have Coopers Clear in the fridge...chilled with a twist it's perfect on a hot day.
If I'm near an Irish pub its usually Kilkenny with a short raspberry dash.....yummo.
My favourite ever beer has been an Irish one called Beamish Red.....which is very hard to find anywhere on tap.
I'm very patiently waiting a few more weeks before I taste my latest brew which is Coopers Recipe of the Month for September.....Coopers Extra Strong Vintage Ale!
