Thicknesser and router needed

Is there anyone in metro Brisbane who can help with a small woodwork job requiring a thicknesser and a router?

I acquired an old wooden traditional tool and die makers tool chest which I am restoring. The whole front panel (lid?) is missing and needs to be remade. The experts at Carbatec tell me it is American Oak. I have been given a piece of this which is a good match for colour and grain but too thick. I need to also cut a rebate on one end for a brass strip which
locates the lid in a groove in the floor of the main body.

I am a former metal machinist and have virtually no woodworking tools other than the basics for household maintenance. I don't much like woodwork. If you cut too much off you can't weld it back on.

Indeed you can't...therefore you cut off a bit more, glue on a larger bit with "Aquadhere" and recut to size;)

These days you use expanding polyurethane glue instead of Aquadhere.

Easy job for me Brian, but a bit far away.

Be in & out of the shed in less than half an hour, if I stop for a coffee...

But, possibly a bit far away too.


An option for you is look up Mens Shed, or depending on how well you get on with the guys at Carbatec, ask if one of them can do it for you. If not, they wood (sic) know someone.

I,ve got a small thicknesser it's 250 mm wide, but got a few chips in the blade at the moment, sands out easily enough. I,ve also got a router and bench, might scratch for the correct bit for a groove though. I'm in ferny hills area though, PM me and we'll see if we can arrange a time. Sounds like you might be the guy near Leon's
