I have met Irv twice.
The first time was in 2000 at the Volvo 1800/120 club rally at Mudgee. The second time was at the Volvo club of Victoria's 2001 40 years in Australia rally.
He is a very nice bloke and he has that unique New Yorker accent. He has done some amazing things in his little '66 1800S. He is very approachable and enjoys a laugh. On both occasions he was without his famous million miler but there is talk of Irv and his 1800 being present at the next rally at Eastern creek 2015. While his achievements are a testament to the human spirit, a lot of the credit deserves to go to the Volvo. As an owner, I may be a little biased.....but the truth is that the 1800 is not only one of the most beautiful cars ever to be produced, it is also great to drive, engineered like no other, built like a brick out house, economical.......geez its everything you could wish for. But, if you want to carry more than 2 adults, then try a 120....another legend but that's another story.....:)

The B series Volvo engine is bombproof. It was developed from a V8 and went through various displacement guises. The 1800cc was enlarged to 2000cc then had the stroke increased to allow 2100cc, This required the block to be canted over, hence the Aussie nickname Swedish Valiant. The B21 grew 2300cc before replacement.
The same basic design was available with carberation, various Bosch mechanical or electronic injection, NA and turbo versions.
It was utilized in the P coupe, 100, 200, 300 700 and 900 series over a period of over fifty years from the early 1960's.

I've always thought the P1800E was the second best looking Volvo they ever made.
My first preference goes to the wagon variant (P1800ES).
Would love to own one. :D
