I have recently acquired a 2007 freelander 2 petrol. The ignition/remote does not seem to be at all reliable when it comes to unlocking the car, do the batteries in these things eventually die?:( its as though it fails to keep a charge after a couple of days of non use.

Hi Clyde,
I think replacing the battery is the first thing to try - 2007 is 7 years ago, and they do "run out"! I have a Discovery 2, and replacing the battery was quite easy. If you have the handbook for the car, how to go about it will likely be shown. Just take care not to break anything while separating the outer case. The battery has a number on it, so you can buy the right one. They're only about $5.
Good luck, Andrew

thanks Andrew, there is nothing in the freelander owners book but it appears to be the least expensive solution

The batteries do fail but are a fixed item and need to be soldered in. Here's a link for the battery

I was having the same issues as you and changed mine a bit less than 2 years ago. No problems since.
