Hi Guys,
Have just spent best part of half an hour painstakingly cleaning the brake dust from over, under and around my alloy wheels and fear the same job could be required again in a fortnight.
I guess there could be an easy way of cleaning that I don't know about.
Thanks in Advance

Another good product is ChemTech Mag Shine. ;)
From the same people who make CT18 / CT20.
Apparently the ultimate fix is to install a set of Akebono brake pads which are ceramic based and do not give off the black brake dust. I have a set in the back of my Disco and will have them installed with new rotors next service ................. hopefully these will eliminate the problem. :)

Yeah that stuff is great I've used similar, gets a bit expensive if you do it every couple of weeks.
Another option is Plastidip:

I only wash my rims once a month now when I used to do it weekly.
And it stops the pitting from brake dust. ;)

I use Trucksteam by Autosmart. It comes in a 20l container lasts ages and use it on the wheels, in the wheel arches and engine bay. The car dealership I used to work for used it and now I just go there directly when I need stuff like interior cleaner and tyre shine. My D2 looks brand new when I detail it!

I reckon if you can't beat 'em....
I changed to black rims too. GOE. I know the dust is still there, but the wheels don't look dirty.

I bought a squirty bottle of rainex for the glass.
Works a treat on the rims, much easier to clean and less black stuff sticking.

Was applying it sparingly at close range,Im sure the disc temps would burn it off in no time.

One may wish to consider ceramic brake pads at the next install.
I installed Akebono pads a couple of years back; now there is effectively no dust to clean up. I think the ceramics work as well as the factory pads - they feel a bit different, but my 3 still seems to stop as required.

How are the rotors wearing?
Apparently cold tea is an excellent brake dust cleaner.

I'm working myself up towards doing pads and rotors on mine ... would be interested in what Dougal has asked ... also, are the ceramic pads noisy and what rotors are you using ?

I have heard cold tea as well think it might have been on the ABC nightlife.

How are the rotors wearing?
I checked the dates etc and felt the rotors today.
I installed new solid vented OEM rotors and the Akebono ceramic pads in October of 2012 at 147,000 km.
I now have 198,000 km on the 3 so that works out to about 50,000 km (30,000 miles) over two years.
I can feel a slight ridge on the perimeter of the rotors of less than a millimetre.
The pad wear is probably 1 mm on the fronts and less than 2 mm on the rears.

There is effectively no dust but then there has not been that much wear either.
My driving is mostly City pavement but I down shift the majority of the time.

Black I'm not a fan of. Deep greys however can look excellent.

No one ever compliments my OEM wheels. Lots of people ( even the LR service blokes) compliment the black GOE wheels. A black wheel will always look better than a dirty silver/white one. :p
