Hi All

I have the standard DRL and Halogen assembly.

The DRL is a very yellow looking dual filament Halogen.

I have swapped it it to match the whiter light, like the new freelander.

I did'nt go LED, due to CANbus consideration. But there are LED twin filament options now.

I don't think I will need them, I am very happy with the result. I hope they last longer than the OEM ( 3 months )

Looks great. Do you know if that same bulb could be used on the fog light assembly? I have an MY14 with the Bi Xenons and LED signature lights but the fog light is very yellow as well.

Best light for fogs in my opinion is the H11 osram night breaker unlimited. Not as white but 110%brighter and 30 m more distance. If you just want aesthetic white light there are heaps of LED H11 in ebay. My research shows not as much useful light as the nightbreakers or phillips extreme range. Though with cree LED h11 they are getting close. The really nice ones are still $180 US . So for me the nightbreakers are the current choice.

Also for factory 4300k colour fogs . Phillips do a globe set called crystal vision 4300k. I'm not sure on the range and lumen output. But it would be very close in colour as the bi-xenon OEM headlamps.

Don't bet on it -I have 4300k HIDs in my low beam and those Phillips 4300K crystal vision globes in my Hi Beam - they are noticeably yellower than the same heat range HIDs and their performance is no better than a basic globe.

I am sure they are just a normal globe with a blue tinge in the glass.

IMHO a waste of money.

Good to know, haven't used the crystal vision myself. More interested in the light output from the fogs. That's why I went for nightbreakers.

They might be OK for fogs but pretty ordinary in Hi Beam - I should have bought the max light ones in the range and not worried about colour.

I will now wait until LED technology gets better and put LEDs in my Hi beam. Have you thought about LEDS for the fogs.

Certainly the standard fogs in the D3/D4 are a waste of space.

Yes, but all the research I have done says the LED H11 are not quite there in terms of output. Certainly the ebay specials..
The only ones I'd potentially go for are the ORACLEH11 . 2200 lumen per bulb!!! But the are $200 US a pair. Bit rich for me, just for foggies. Google them.
The do look awesome

Agree - my research seems to put LEDs a bit better than Halogens but not quite as good as HIDS.

I think the main issue with the fogs is that the light fitting, the reflector and its position deep inside the front bumper are so bad (even for fogs) that not much works well.

Where did you find the globes? I have been wanting to do this since the day I picked up the car.

I assume you have the dual filament globe 21/5?

I ordered online a place in vic, bling work automotive. Very helpful via email. Quick del too.

Yes, my lights are 21/5w . T20

Straight swap . I think the OEM yellow spoils the whole front end.

Hey BJM
Ive ready changed the HIR2 for HID 55 watt.
Really brought them to life out in the bush.
Looking at the LED for the fogs. See if I can prise a little usefulness out of them.

Wouldn't those LED lights you posted above be for the headlights and not the fog lights though?

I did see your HID thread already. I'm not overwhelmed by the OEM HID lights in our Subaru Forester... I'm still undecided on that upgrade.

H11 fit into the fog light fitting. LED shouldn't have heat issues like upgraded halogens.

I have missed my bi-xenons from
My old D3 since switching to
The D4. I had no
Option to get factory ones, as time was very limited, and there were no discos available at the time.

I was worried the projectors might be patchy with the upgrade, but I am delighted with the range and fill. The HIR2 were very average compared.

Interesting reading guys. I have had great success with a set of Narva 71910 DRLs which set nicely in the grill.87090
