View Full Version : Why does my D4 sit lower than most D3?

Over the last year or so I've been noticing the height of my D4 seems to sit noticably lower than D3?

Measure it and if it is wrong calibrate your height sensors to correct the height.
In the back of the iidtool manual (http://www.gap-diagnostic.com/support/documents.html) is the measuring process, factory heights and calibration sheet. HTH

It had a service only Monday week ago, but I didn't ask about height.
What I did mention some time ago is that as soon as I stop it drops about 50mm, even drops while sitting at traffic lights. They say its normal. ????

Some degree of that is normal, certainly my car has always done it and sometimes I have thought it was excessive. Height sensor calibration has reduced how much and how often mine does it. Has you car had any suspension work (LCA or suchlike) ? Or any reason to have had any suspension component removed and refitted ?

After a major warranty claim, I'm not tempted to modify anything till its out of warranty.

Has it always sat at the current height ? Does your stability control function as you expect ?
You can change the height to whatever you like via sensor calibration. There is a tool that a LR dealer will have to do precise measurement of height to enable the math for sensor calibration. They're unlikely to want to do it as it is a bit time consuming.
A tape measure will tell you if it is out of spec but make sure you cycle height and allow the car to settle by moving back and forward before you measure.

How shall I put this...are you er... "generously" proportioned?

Uncalled for!
With electronic air suspension, the height shouldn't change if the sole occupant weighs 45kg or the car is full of 7 members of a Pacific Islander rugby team.
Now you can go back to your coil spring mentality.

It will when they all got out... As it would rise due to less load.
It will then adjust back down to calibrated height.

However, with my petite figure I can't imagine it would budge at all.

Is it somehow set to lower to access height when stopped?

I was wondering the same thing. Some people I know deliberately lower their D4 to access height every time they stop and it is possible that LR have introduced some setting that can be activated to automate this in later models??

Hi Graeme
I do use "access height" (which is much lower than its regular stance) for my 83 year old Mum, but not often enough to make it a standard setting.

I also can't understand why it would settle while sitting at a red light?
When driving down the road parrallel to a D3 my D4 seems lower.
Even when I park it up each night it settles before I walk away. But not to access height .
All very interesting.

It will re-level after you get out because weight has been removed and will re-level when stopped after driving due to the tendency of the front to lighten whilst driving thereby being too low when stopped, but should never be in the vicinity of 50mm - probably more like 10mm.

When my front sensors were out of whack after a lot of suspension work mine would drop very noticeably maybe 25mm or more - it seemed like a lot. After calibration it is not perceptible inside the vehicle (obviously it does self level etc but not like prior to calibration).
Mine was also sitting not level at all when measured correctly and my dsc was activating excessively.

Have noticed mine always seems to sit lower at the front than the rear, very slightly, where many others,3 and 4's sit level.
I mentioned it when it was at the dealer, and they checked it and was all within spec.

I raised the front of my D4 10mm to increase bump-stop clearance just a little at standard height because it improved the ride. I also like that it now sits level rather than looking like a wedge but perhaps another item along with the bull-bar and AT tyres to increase fuel consumption at speed.
