Wrote the Fairlane off this evening, an idiot in a Jackaroo pit manoeuvred me at 80 kays as he changed lanes.
Five minutes after it happened Kev the Fridgy phoned ne about fixing the air con.
For three days I've been postponing refueling both tanks, that saved me $180.

Glad you're OK Ian,
Bet the other driver got nervous when you got out
(" Aw crap, Of all the cars in all the lanes that I could swing into, why did I have to hit the car with the big guy in it!)
do any of these sound familiar to the excuse given?
"I was driving along the motorway when the police pulled me over onto the hard shoulder. Unfortunately I was in the middle lane and there was another car in the way.." (M Robson)
"Going to work at 7am this morning I drove out of my drive straight into a bus. The bus was 5 minutes early.." (N Bradley)
"I was driving along when I saw two kangaroos copulating in the middle of the road causing me to have an accident and I ejaculated through the sun roof." (from an Australian claim form - N Shepherd)
"The accident happened because I had one eye on the lorry in front, one eye on the pedestrian and the other on the car behind." (Sharon Burrows)
"I started to slow down but the traffic was more stationary than I thought."
"I pulled into a lay-by with smoke coming from under the hood. I realised the car was on fire so took my dog and smothered it with a blanket."
Q: Could either driver have done anything to avoid the accident?
A: Could have travelled by bus?
The claimant had collided with a cow. The questions and answers on the claim form were -
Q: What warning was given by you? A: Horn.
Q: What warning was given by the other party? A: Moo.
"I started to turn and it was at this point I noticed a camel and an elephant tethered at the verge. This distraction caused me to lose concentration and hit a bollard."
"On approach to the traffic lights the car in front suddenly broke."
"I was going at about 70 or 80 mph when my girlfriend on the pillion reached over and grabbed my testicles so I lost control."
"I didn't think the speed limit applied after midnight"
"I knew the dog was possessive about the car but I would not have asked her to drive it if I had thought there was any risk."
Q: Do you engage in motorcycling, hunting or any other pastimes of a hazardous nature?
A: "I Watch the Lottery Show and listen to Terry Wogan."
"First car stopped suddenly, second car hit first car and a haggis ran into the rear of second car."
"Windscreen broken. Cause unknown. Probably Voodoo."
"The car in front hit the pedestrian but he got up so I hit him again"
"I pulled away from the side of the road, glanced at my mother-in-law and headed over the embankment."
"The other car collided with mine without giving warning of its intention."
"I collided with a stationary truck coming the other way"
"A truck backed through my windshield into my wife's face"
"A pedestrian hit me and went under my car"
"In an attempt to kill a fly, I drove into a telephone pole."
"I had been shopping for plants all day and was on my way home. As I reached an intersection a hedge sprang up obscuring my vision and I did not see the other car."
"I was on my way to the doctor with rear end trouble when my universal joint gave way causing me to have an accident."
"An invisible car came out of nowhere, struck my car and vanished."
"I was thrown from the car as it left the road. I was later found in a ditch by some stray cows."
"Coming home I drove into the wrong house and collided with a tree I don't have."
"I thought my window was down, but I found it was up when I put my head through it."
"The guy was all over the road. I had to swerve a number of times before I hit him."
"I had been driving for forty years when I fell asleep at the wheel and had an accident."
"As I approached an intersection a sign suddenly appeared in a place where no stop sign had ever appeared before."
"To avoid hitting the bumper of the car in front I struck a pedestrian."
"My car was legally parked as it backed into another vehicle."
"I told the police that I was not injured, but on removing my hat found that I had a fractured skull."
"I was sure the old fellow would never make it to the other side of the road when I struck him."
"The pedestrian had no idea which way to run as I ran over him."
"I saw a slow moving, sad faced old gentleman as he bounced off the roof of my car."
"The indirect cause of the accident was a little guy in a small car with a big mouth."
"The telephone pole was approaching. I was attempting to swerve out of the way when I struck the front end."
"The gentleman behind me struck me on the backside. He then went to rest in a bush with just his rear end showing. "
"I had been learning to drive with power steering. I turned the wheel to what I thought was enough and found myself in a different direction going the opposite way."
"I was backing my car out of the driveway in the usual manner, when it was struck by the other car in the same place it had been struck several times before."
"When I saw I could not avoid a collision I stepped on the gas and crashed into the other car."
"The accident happened when the right front door of a car came round the corner without giving a signal."
"No one was to blame for the accident but it would never have happened if the other driver had been alert."
"I was unable to stop in time and my car crashed into the other vehicle. The driver and passengers then left immediately for a vacation with injuries."
"The pedestrian ran for the pavement, but I got him."
"I saw her look at me twice. She appeared to be making slow progress when we met on impact."
"The accident occurred when I was attempting to bring my car out of a skid by steering it into the other vehicle."
"My car got hit by a submarine." (The Navy informed the wife of a submariner that the craft was due in port. She drove to the base to meet her husband and parked at the end of the slip where the sub was to berth. An inexperienced ensign was conning the sub and it rammed the end of the slip, breaking a section away, causing her car to fall into the water. The Navy paid the compensation claim.) (Jay Kuivinen)
"I bumped into a lamp-post which was obscured by human beings."
"The accident was caused by me waving to the man I hit last week."
"I knocked over a man; he admitted it was his fault for he had been knocked down before."
"A house hit my car." (A house was being moved by a large truck. My friend had his car parked on the side of the road correctly. The house began to tilt off the truck and eventually fell off the truck, landing on my friend's car. He eventually had the insurance paid, after lengthy explanation and the moving company confirming the story.) (Ben Keirnan)
Hope any of these gives you a laugh!

I feel for you. Yesterday in town I was stopped waiting to turn right and a red P-plater ran into the back of the trailer. Trailer has minor damage, but the 110 has a badly damaged rear crossmember and tow bar.
The trailer is solid (and heavy), the tray having a perimeter frame of 75x75x8mm steel. The Falcon that hit will, I suspect, be a write-off, the right hand side of the engine bay being planed off just above the top of the wheel.
I am hoping I do not have to fight the insurer wanting to write off the 110 - I suspect repair costs will be close to the market value it is insured for.

Ian, get two quotes to repair the Foulane and send them registered mail to the driver and the owner (if different people) demanding payment within 7 days or you will take action in the Small Claims Court for recovery of the damages. Let them deal with their insurer. Don't respond to any actions by their insurer except to ask if the cheque is on the way. It is your car, you have suffered a loss, and are entitled to seek redress for the cost of repair to the standard before the incident. They can't write off your car or attempt to take possession as if it was insured and written off by them. If they wish to assess the damage, allow them to visit the car at your premises and warn them not to place it on the WOV register or heads will roll.

You know Ian something just came to mind when looking at the pics, in 2002 I was rear ended in my EF Futura from what i saw at night I didn't think it was too bad, however, the repair quote was $ 8000. The panel beater reckoned they would right it off as I would have expected too.
The Panel Beater put me in touch with one of those "No Win No Pay" solicitors, the end result was around a $ 2000 payout to me for expenses incurred and yep the Futura was repaired, the repair included a complete respray in "Mocha Foam" and they really did a bloody good job.
We kept the car for another three years and had no problems at all...... would be well worth your while to talk to someone with professional legal qualifications before you give up...........

Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, Ian. My 4 litre ute never has done better then 14-15 l/100. Bryan Byrt Ford would plug their service computer in and look me in the eye and say it is using 11-12 which "is within guidelines." If it was only using 11-12 I wouldn't have been in their shop bitching about fuel usage. It uses as much fuel as the Chrysler 265 it replaced. Actually uses more up the highway laden and is not as quick.

Brian, My family has had a 4 litre Falcon in one form or another since they arrived. They all do/did similar L/100kms. The mid 90's Tickford 6 engined cars (EF/EL) seem (to me) a little better than the others. Maybe a hemi heart transplant into your ute would stop the "bitching about fuel usage" :D

The Paj had my heart palpitating between Longreach and Boulia, averaging 19/100, with the van into a headwind. Brisbane-Alice (Plenty)-Rock-Adelaide-Sydney-Brisbane ended up at 13/100 @ 90-100 kph.

It has WA plates, so that could explain the 320Kms. It is a Ghia, has leather, duel fuel and the original radio combo and wheels. The back floor has a carpet overlay and the maps pockets (behind front seats) are not stretched. This all indicates (to me) that the owner cares about the car to some degree and the back seat passengers were not kids. All good signs :)
It has the Intech Variable Cam Timing motor which will keep most V8's of the day honest. Looks pretty clean overall (from the 4 pics anyway).

My condolences on losing your last one. :(
I’ve always had a soft spot for the Fairlanes, they certainly don’t hold their value though, a lot of car for little money these days.
Yeah that one is an AU equivalent; The AU’s were in my opinion actually a pretty good car (although unloved by many because of their look), they fixed the head gasket problems that plagued some of the E series Falcons.
I just sold my BA mk II One Tonner that I’ve had for 10 years, had an XF ute for 10 years before that; still not sure what to replace it with…….twin cab of some description probably. :o

Fair comment but would need a new injected LPG system to compete with the old one's running costs. The NL/EL is the best of the older versions with a distributor ignition, not the troublesome coil pack as in the EF and AU series. And Ian's already got a cheap LPG system on his busted one...

No mate, I didn't want an eight. I didn't really want to go to AU, after all it's only a work dunger. I went with this one because a) it was local. b) it was low kays in very good nick.
The downside of it is leather interior, I like cloth; 16" wheels; it seems to ride harsher (it does have 300,000 less clicks on the clock) and it is less economical on fuel.

I must admit it worked very well. The remote control was a pain though.

G'day mate,I hear what your saying. The styling (or lack of) was one of the reasons it didn't sell very well. If you look at a Statesman or Caprice visually they looked different from the Commodore, they looked like a luxury model, the LTD and Fairlane never captured that feel in the BA/BF series. And as a result they were dropped from the model line-up in 2007.

I think Victoria had it first, back in the days when different prefixes were allocated to each state.

The Tow truck driver said the Fireys were hosing diesel off the previous corner when he was heading off and my daughter told me the first thing she felt was the bum of the car step out. It happened just out of Childers on the Biggenden Rd. It had only recently stopped raining so I can only guess it was a bit everything that contributed to the accident.

going to cost him a bit to replace it i would think ;)
I was prepared to put it all down to experience, expecting the cost of recovery to exceed the value of the car. It wasn't worth the grief to me so I simply went out and bought another car.
His insurance took less than 24 hours to send me a letter of demand for $700 odd, I replied that I had no intention of paying as the incident was entirely the fault of their client.
I was asked to furnish a diagram of the incident, any photos I had taken and proof that it was not my fault.
I replied asking for the same; I was totally stonewalled, but the letters of demand kept coming, upping the anti to over $15,000. All this for a $1,000 twenty year old Jackaroo! :o:D
All went quiet for a couple of months and I thought they'd admitted defeat, realizing I'd called their bluff. Then it all started over again with a new keyboard warrior. I, again politely, pointed out that none of my replies had received a response. This was met with an attitude of hat appeared to be genuine surprise and a request to re-forward them. This I did, again without acknowledgment, but received yet another demand for $15,000+.
Obviously attack is the best form of defense. Below is a copy of the emails I've sent; it's gong terribly quiet all of a sudden.:D
I would be happy if they would summons me, I could counter-sue and they would be paying the cost. I fail to see how a car entering a carriageway and colliding with the rear of a car already on the carriageway cannot be at fault.
Hopefully they will spark a legal challenge,:twisted:
Update due next week. ;)
