L322 Rain Sensor

Gday.
In my L322's past life someone has put a generic windscreen in and removed the rain sensor module just behind the rear vision mirror.

Has anyone had similar?

Good old Shannons, with whom I have 9 cars with, won't foot the bill for a genuine ($1400) windscreen. Only a $440 cheepy.

Does any one know if I can put a generic windscreen in and simply get a rain sensor module and stick it in place. The wires are there, the software module is there according to my Fautmate and of course the speed adjustment is on the windscreen stalk on the steering column, the fuses are still in place!

Looking forward to any ideas and thoughts

If the electrics are ok, you should be able to fit a module. Just make sure you use the original mount !!! TRS in Adelaide have some L322's they are wrecking.

Ive done some reading and might buy a new sensor from my local Land Rover dealer for about $100.

If the second hand one is damaged it is very sensitive and won't work.

I will try it and see if it works without sticking it on my old windscreen.

If I have a winner Ill get my windscreen man to put the new generic one in and then stick it to that.

Ill let everyone know how I get on but still looking for more info/ideas.

I've replaced my windscreen recently, and did it on the cheap, so here's how it goes. There are 3 different windscreens available for these - heated, rain sensor and plain cheapy. A genuine heated screen is almost as much as the car, an aftermarket heated screen is crap and you can see the elements in it clearly and it obstructs your view. So I looked at the difference between a rain sensor screen and a plain one. The only difference is that the rain sensor screen has a bit in the centre blacked out, with a rectangular clear space in the middle. This is so you don't actually see the sensor from outside the vehicle. I went with a plain old screen - $260 fitted, compared to $420 fitted for the rain sensor screen - quite a bit extra for some black paint... I removed the sensor at his request before he removed the screen so if I damaged it, it was my fault - I'm fine with that. Carefully cleaned the glue off it, put a dob of clear silicone on it - so that it completely covers the sensor, and there will be no air bubbles in it, and stuck it back on. It works fine, and with the plastic covers on, you can hardly notice it from outside.

So, in a nutshell, yes you can put a rain sensor on a standard cheapy screen...:)

Thanks for the reply. I think thats what I'll try, buy a new sensor, glue it on, plug it in and see what happens.

I have the large plastic surround for the module which wasn't on the car when I got it. I just cut some black plastic to fill in the space against the windscreen where the "black paint" is. I reckon I can cut a shape out of that to allow the new module to slot in.

My local LR dealer spares has quoted me about $100 trade for the new module.

Im with shannons and am really ****ed off they won't give me a genuine, Ive got nine cars and house and contents with them. Should have lied and said it was still the original genuine. $1400, of course they'll only pay for the generic thats in it now! Next time I'll lie like everyone else does!

Any more info from anyone is still appreciated.

Just had a windscreen replace under RACQ insurance.
Dual heated, rain sensor, blacked out where necessary. It came with mirror mount, rain sensor clips already bonded on. I believe it cost around $550. Another local supplier quoted $420 for same supply.
No doubt a generic, but quite good. The heating wires are barely visible only if you look up close.
I didn't previously have rain sensor, but bought mirror, sensor and proper covers from ebay usa, ex BMW x5! for us$85 including postage.
The wires are up there behind lining and access thru ohead console bit.
Need diagnostics to turn off "intermittent" then rain sensor works as it should.

I had three genuine screens out of Shannon's earlier this year, now if O'Brians could learn how to fit one that would keep costs down .

Most do for a D3/D4/RRS :). Surely the issues associated with the L322 are the same for D3/D4/RRS.

I have a HSE that I don't believe came with the rain sensor screen. Is it possible to add a sensor on?
