Am now sitting in 33* heat in my lounge room after my aircon died on me this afternoon.:censored:
Anyone recommend a portable air-con so I can get cool again.
Thanks
cheers

Portables can be hired from the usual suspects.
What's the make & model of your A/C, and the symptoms of the failure? Maybe we can give a few ideas?

a; live in a rental, owner has to fix heaps on the house already.Am still waiting on getting the ceiling in the lounge fixed around the chimney, its been 3 years now.
b; its an ancient Kelvinator around the 70's era,so a new one would be good but cant see that happening.
c; a fan would do jack crap in my place.
d; maybe I'll buy an evaporator cooler instead.
e; dont drink alcohol anymore.:D
cheers

Does the fan on the A/C run?
If not, with it turned off have a good look as it may have a mud wasp nest stopping the fan from starting.Or take off the front cover and put your hand down where the air comes out and try to spin the fan.Might dislodge something if it hasn't been run for a while.
Those old Kelvies were bloody good units, not like the crap that is around today.

And HEEEAAAVY too....... There were bucket loads of them and the Popes with the wooden facia around the Brisbane Markets that I as an apprentice had to clean each year and why did they install them over door ways so high up

So you didn't have to pay gym membership.:D
yep i did the same at the Qld uni, they had thousands of them, pull them all apart, clean, fix, bla, bla.
What about the Popes, pelicans, wrens, hawks, they were the heaviest by miles.
Full of friggin water as well:mad:
In fact some of the Pelicans were 3 phase, they were bloody heavy and had a mass of wires everywhere:mad:
Didn't have those portable lifters in those days either,or battery drills to undo all the screws on the panels.

Hi Scarry,
I had it running from around midday and about 1430pm there was a loud bang.
Didnt know what it was so went outside to see if there was anything along the street.Nothing. Came back inside,a/c was still running but not putting out any cold air.It was never a good a/c unit in the first place, but at least it kept the inside cooler than outside.
Any ideas?
Thanks

If the compresser made the loud bang then maybe it is stuffed, not worth repairing.
Or maybe a capaciter has destroyed itself, time to have someone qualified look at it.
Presuming the fan still runs ok.
