Hi again,

My 1996 GEMS 4.6 P38 is registering 13.6 volts when charging and the battery (3 years old) sometimes does not have enough juice in the morning to crank over the engine.

The bearings on the alternator seem fine, but given it has been in use for 17 years I thought a good start would be to change the bushes. I can't find a reference to the make in RAVE and I've read that many P38 alternator reviews I'm more confused than ever.

Can anyone tell me the make and where I maybe able to source new bushes and regulator?

Thanks,

Jonathan

There's a typo...should be "brushes" instead of "bushes"...;)

The make should be stamped somewhere on the body of the alternator ...look for the model number and tap this into Google (or Bing)!... I thought the GEMS at one stage were running a Marelli 120Amp model. If so, do a search on compatible parts...(Marelli had some tie-up or other with Denso and were selling electrical bits for Toyota...I only mention this in that it may provide an alternative path to sourcing replacement parts).

Once you pull it apart, repacking the bearings is a good idea...Often the brushes come as part of an assembly and you replace the lot...
