Well,
After 10 years and 3 Defenders, l have gone to a GU Patrol. In the most part owing to my concerns about the reliability of the new Defender. I can't say that l am 100% happy with the GU Cab Chassis (2012). It lacks any and all character, everyone thinks l am a farmer and it is boring to drive. However, l will never blow a diff or break an axle (have done both in multiple Defenders). It doesn't leak and l can hold a conversation without screaming....
I am keen to have another Defender as my "weekend 4WD".....l really do miss owing one.

I think you will find this is a thing of the past. The early 3 litres had problems. I had a 2003 model and did 300000 kms and the only problem I had was dirty fuel. Yes the Patrol is a bit boring but I am sure you will have no problems.

Funny reading that as my new Nissan Patrol- admittedly a 76 model- did wheel bearings, clutch & engine valve seals under warranty, then later a gearbox after buggering the handbrake, spring bolts, rear wheel carrier ( self destructed on corrugations) & side steps going the same places my Series Land Rover used to unfailingly go.
I traded it in in 1979 as it began rusting.
But, never, never had any diff or axle issues :D

My mate had his 2008 3.0 grenade and is trying to get $ back via vcat. I think the new ones still have the potential to grenade unfortunately but do it less often.
