Anyone purchased anything similar ?

The wall mounted Kelvinator has karked it.
Also has rust so not worth repairing.
The Fuji's in the bedrooms and computer room are okay.
These portable doovers could be moved around and I could buy a couple much cheaper than a new wall mouted thingy.

Do they work ?

Assuming that they are the 2 part unit with a flexible refrigerant pipe and a box that you sit outside the window. They do work, but are much less efficient than a wall mounted box or a split system. Personally I've not found them to be particularly god value for money, but if you have a single small room to cool they may be ok.

Over the years a few of my clients have used them in control rooms. They work but they are a lot noisier than the wall mounted units and they need a duct for the hot air that comes out the back to get out of the room. So usually leave a window open and run the duct thru that with a bit of board to cover the bit of open window or drill a 300mm hole thru the wall.
Every where I've seen them they usually get replaced by wall mount units in a few years.

We had them up in the dongers at the mines (Pt Hedland) b4 the rail camps became active. They worked ok but they are very noisy! Not something you'd have in a living room or bedroom if you want to watch TV or sleep! As said before, you have to have a large duct expelling the hot air out of the window. There'll also be a small water drain pipe that needs to go out too! :)

I have smaller Fujitsu units in the bedrooms and computer room and they work well. I cut holes in the walls and welded up frames to mount them.
The large wallmounted Kelviator has to handle a large area which it did pretty well but on very hot days : 35 to 40 odd degrees we had to run one of the bedroom ones with the door open as well as the one in the pc room which is usually on anyway.

To replace the Kelvinator with a similar new one is over $1200.

Now that I am on my own I sort of thought that one or two of these new portables might do me as I could move them around to suit.

Oh well it looks like I will just have to spend more and replace the wall thingy.
