I realise this is a very long shot. My neighbour has a 1961 Thornycroft Mastiff truck. He's trying to track down the original rego plate number. I know there are some truck drivers on here who have clocked up quite a few miles. There are a couple of photos taken at the Black Mountain roadhouse in the 60's that have been obtained from one of the women who worked at the roadhouse at the time. Does anyone have any photos that may include an Abood's Transport Thornycroft that includes a clear enough shot of the number plate. Apparently the RTA/RMS claim that the records that far back no longer exist.
The Thornycroft is the far truck in the photo of three.
Thanks for your consideration.
Don.

There's a picture of it on here Down Under AU, NZ (http://forums.justoldtrucks.com/PrintTopic870.aspx)

Search for Aboods and you'll find it (there are a lot of pictures to scroll through otherwise). Can't quite make out the rego but you might be able to contact the person who posted the photo via their forum.

Best of luck.

Does anyone old enough remember the New England Highway going through Black Mountain village?

There were so many pictures! I spent ages looking, not sure to thank you or blame you for me not getting much done today :)

Thanks Gromit, I think he might get the number off that photo. I'll include it here in case some one has the skills to get that number clearly.
Thanks again.

I make it KPE317, but the last digit is a bit doubtful, could be a 2 or even something else, and the P could possibly be an F, although I don't think so.

An update.... The plot thickens. He's got that number (KRE 210)and another one (FWK 692) from two of the three lives of that truck. The one he's after is the number on the plate in those two photos I first posted. The truck was doing interstate work at the time and only had two axles. The number was prefixed 'I' signifying interstate.
Any help would be appreciated.
